Intel Warp Black Screen Bug

The display goes black when playing a video; the image returns when scrolling away from the video.

A strange horizontal warping effect also appears when moving the mouse.

The effect eventually disappears on its own. The glitch isn't visible *in* captured videos on the system itself. A black screen during video playback effectively rules out the monitor as the source of the problem.

Someone else is experiencing the same issue (10th generation Intel HD graphics):

https://community.intel.com/t5/Gaming-on-Intel-Processors-with/Screen-Glitching-Black-screens-and-Blurry-visuals/m-p/1716623

July 20, 2026: The bug occurs regardless of the browser - whether Chrome or Firefox.

It makes no difference whether the driver is new (32.0.101.7088) or old (31.0.101.5592). The old driver had been installed for years, so it’s unlikely to be the cause.

Removed the driver using DDU and reinstalled it after restarting Windows. The Intel Graphics Command Center also reinstalled itself.

July 25, 2026: The error recurred before 10 PM. Right-clicking inside the YouTube video (opening the on-screen menu) fixes the black screen, but the warping persists. The warping disappears after minimizing the browser for 1-2 minutes.

I suspect an issue with the video decoder as the problem always appears when playing a video. I also suspect a hardware issue as I cannot capture the warp effect on video directly on the system. Maybe an update in the software codec unveiled an issue in the hardware video decoder? YouTube mainly uses the vp09 codec.

I noticed the issue only appears after several hours of watching YT videos, that's why it mostly happens on the weekend. 😄

It really must be an issue with the video decoder, either in the driver or in the hardware.

It's hard to capture the effect on video so I made another one closer to the screen.

I got the bug again now after about 2 weeks without it. I watched YT videos for about an hour before the glitches and the black screen.

A reboot also fixes it. Here is the last video I watched when the bug appeared: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skqgEQrDpUA

But I don't think the issue is connected to specific videos. I hope somebody from Intel could answer here.

Sorry to hear you’re still running into this issue!

I took a look at the SSU report you shared, and it looks like your system is currently using an older graphics driver. As a first step, could you try updating to the latest graphics driver available and see if the issue still occurs?

Before installing the new driver, I’d also recommend doing a clean driver installation using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller). This can help rule out any issues caused by leftover or corrupted driver files.

DDU Guide:
How to Use the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to Uninstall a...

Latest Graphics Driver:
Intel® 11th–14th Gen Processor Graphics – Windows*

Once you’ve completed the clean installation, let us know how it goes.

A few other details would also help us narrow this down:

1. Does the issue happen only on YouTube, or have you noticed it on other video streaming sites too?
2. Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration? If so, did that make any difference?
3. Is HDR enabled on your system?
4. How frequently does the issue occur, and roughly how long does it take before the black screen/warping effect appears?
5. Does this happen only while playing videos, or have you also noticed it during normal desktop use?

One other thing I want to mention for transparency: 11th–14th Gen Intel® Processor Graphics are now under Intel’s legacy software support model. This means future driver updates will mainly focus on critical fixes and security updates.

So, even if our developers are able to identify the root cause and develop a fix, there is a possibility that the fix may only be available for newer graphics platforms, such as Intel® Core™ Ultra processors, and may not be included in future drivers for your current graphics solution. For more details, you can check 11th Generation through 14th Generation Intel® Processor Graphics

That said, we’re still happy to take a closer look. If you’d like us to continue investigating, please share the results of the driver update/clean installation along with the answers to the questions above, and we’ll go from there.

Hi CM_Intel,

IIRC I also had the issue with the latest Intel driver. But I now installed it again. Another problem is the rollback of Windows to the old driver.

I followed this article now and did not do a clean install: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000087834/graphics.html

Regarding your question:

1. I don't use any other streaming service so I can't really tell.

2. I think it's obvious that it's a decoder bug and disabling hardware acceleration would surely fix it but I'm not willing to do that.

3. No HDR active in Windows, just in the monitor itself, but I don't see how that would affect the GPU.

4. About once a week, more often on the weekend. It usually appears 1-8 hours after the PC is on.

5. This is exlusively when playing videos.

Thanks for the update. Please send the following so we can continue investigating:

1. Updated SSU Report

Generate a new Intel® System Support Utility report after reinstalling the graphics driver, and share it with us.

How to get the Intel SSU Logs on Windows

While generating the SSU report, kindly uncheck the “Networking” option.

2. Driver details

  • Current graphics driver version installed
  • Driver version Windows rolls back to
  • Does the issue happen before or after the rollback?
  • Any related entries in Event Viewer (Application/System logs) at the time it occurs?

We will review the provided information at the earliest opportunity and respond with next steps
