Intel q965 with dual monitors and aero

I just recently installed Windows 7 Pro on my Dell Optiplex 745 which has the on board q965 controller. This supports dual monitors via a dongle. Windows Aero Glass works until I extend my desktop to the second monitor and then it reverts back to Aero Basic.

Is this a known issue or a bug in the driver? Does anyone else have a similiar setup with aero glass enabled?

I have the same setup as ANSEL1. Dell Optiplex 745 with daughter board for dvi. I get the same error and, like the others, I only get the error in extended desktop; dual clone works. Is there a way to get the list of drivers and DLLs so we can compare with what is working for you?

Thanks for checking this out. The dongle was supplied by Dell and plugs in to the motherboard via a DVI port and splits into one DVI port and one VGA port.

Hi there, Just a quick question. Wouldn't the splitting of the video from the same card produce the same output to each monitor? In my case (as well as others) there are 2 cards, one on the mother board and one as a plug-in on the PCI slot. But if you split it after it comes out of the same card, it's got to have the same image. Are you stating that isn't working for you? Because, just a thought, but because, the wire being split would only replicate the same image. More importantly, if support is using the same technique to troubleshoot this issue, I doubt they would see a 'problem' either.

I'm not having problmes with extending my desktop - it works and is stated as a feature of the computer from Dell.. I used the same setup with Vista and Aero Glass worked. The only problme is GLass not working. When I run the troubleshooting wizard Glass turns on for about two seconds and then back off before the wizard completes.

Imagine my surprise this morning when I unlock my computer to Aero enabled. When I locked it out on Friday it was Windows Basic... very strange indeed. I haven't reboot it or anything so I don't know if it'll last.

Same scenario here, windows 7 64 bit , dual monitors, Dell optiplex 745, latest intel driver.

No AERO.

D'oh, did anyone get a fix for this? I've just updated to Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit on a Dell Optiplex 745 (USFF chassis) and am experiencing exactly the same problem as above:

1. On a single monitor, aero works without a fault
2. Dual display, but a clone of a single desktop, aero works without a fault
3. Dual display, extended desktop (either monitor set as default), aero fails and back to basic

The event log comes out with the following:

"The Desktop Window Manager has encountered a fatal error (0x88980406)

"

The details are:

Intel(R) Q965/Q963 Express Chipset Family

Driver Provider: Intel Corporation

Driver Date: 23/09/2009

Driver Version: 8.15.10.1930

I think these are the latest drivers from Intel,as I've scoured the download center, but am happy to be proved wrong. If anyone can provide a link to a driver, Vista or Win7 that will actually work, then I'd be very pleased to hear about it.

Using the Vista driver worked for me, too! I never thought about trying it out.

NOT TO INTEL: You have a problem with your Windows 7 Driver. My system doesn't seem taxed at all. In fact, it works as good as it did under Vista.

I am having the same issues witha few of my Opti 745 USFF's. One question though....I see the vista driver is working for some people but when try to update the driver to the vista one, it says I am already using the best match. The if I uninstall the windows 7 driver and try to install the vista driver is says it's not compatible.
