Hi,
Running a Samsung Series 9 notebook, with Intel Graphics HD 4000 (bios 0.1) for quite some time now, reasonably happy with it. Always been running 1980 * 1020 on Windows 8 now.
However, after Windows 8.1 upgrade the maximum resolution is now 1600 * 900.
CustomModeApp does not work (exceeds bandwidth), the Intel Graphics Information Center reports says the only supported resolution is 1600 * 900 but this is not what it was, and also not according to published specs.
I tried contacting Samsung support, but they recommended a factory reset (sigh), and the Samsung drivers are ancient and doesn't even ackowledge the existence of Windows 8, let alone 8.1.
What to do? Your help is appreciated.

Hi gerco,
I recommend you testing our latest graphics driver for your controller. You can get at the following link:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23321 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23321
It is important to say that even though win 8 and win 8.1 are similar Operating Systems have different platform or kernel so your computer may support win 8 but not win 8.1. This may be a possibility since the computer manufactures can limit their units to certain OS.

I have exactly the same problem reported by Gerco. I already did the solution proposed for you Kevin but doesn't fix the problem with the resolution. any other options? maybe with Samsung?

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for this, but unfortunately it doesn't work for me. It reports that my PC does not meet the minimum requirements, whatever that might be.
I did a bit more research, and it turns out Samsung has a mini site dedicated to Windows 8.1. My model (series 9, x3c model) is listed there as being compatible. The currently installed driver is Intel (seems to be no OEM driver, with driver date Oktober 1st), and the version.ini shows PackVer=3.0.1.10123.
I really hope this can be resolved because the display is really cr@p now.
Appreciate your help.

Gerco,
I am sorry, I provided the incorrect link. Here is the correct one for your graphics controller:

Hi Kevin,
This morning I wake up with the message from Samsung update that there is a new graphics driver for the system. So hopefully I instaled it but still resolution is at max. 1600*900.
So I gave your link a try but that doesn't install. It says someting like 'this setup is not validated for your system', so that unfortunately doesn't work.
Is there a way to force the intel driver to try out 1900*1020, as I know for sure both display and controller is capable of dealing with it. The CustomModeUpdate app still doesn't allow it, keep on complaining about that resolution being out of band.
Thanks for your help, I wish I could say the same for Samsung's support 😞

Hi Gerco,
In the case that you get the error message "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer's manufacturer. Setup will exit." You can follow the steps on the following link:
http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-022355.htm http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-022355.htm
If you are still having issues, can you please post your Graphics report here? You can get it by accessing the Intel® Graphics Control panel > Options > Information Center > Save. This information will help us to diagnose and verify why you are not getting the resolution desired.

Hi all,
I have the same issue: after win 8.1 upgrade the driver was upgraded by the Samsung SW update utility to 10.18.10.3304 and resolution was lowered.
I uninstalled the intel graphics driver (10.18.10.3304) and the resolution returned to normal like pre-win 8.1 upgrade.
Then Win Updated kicked in and upgraded the driver to 10.18.10.3316 - and the problem returned.
I finally checked www.whatismyscreenresolution.com and it showed 1280 x 720 although the Intel HD graphics Control Panel shows wrongly 1600 x 900. Switching to another resolution works but it doesn't take the highest resolution for a Samsung 9 series. Is this a bug?

Hi Kevin,
I can't upload nfo files - but this is a link should work... https://drive.google.com/a/vecc.be/file/d/0B9wUn6mDFRoWZE9JNzFROUxXX0E/edit?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/a/vecc.be/file/d/0B9wUn6mDFRoWZE9JNzFROUxXX0E/edit?usp=sharing
Strange, nfo shows 1600 x 900 although if I go to http://www.whatismyscreenresolution.com/ What is my screen resolution it shows differently and what I experience is also differently.
In the meantime I did again what Gerco did, but no luck for me.

I have exacly the same problem after upgrading to 8,1 - cant get higer than 1600. There is an odd moment if I disable the device in device manager when the screen flickers back to full resolution - but then windows just finds and adds the old driver

I was able to get my display back on the Series 9 by going into the device manager and uninstalling plus checkbox to delete the display driver. Odd next step because I went to see if I could then re-install the driver and have things work and now when I run the Intel driver package I get the error "The computer does not meet the minimum standards for installing this software"

Hi ojhncb,
Since we have a new driver released on Nov 18th I would like you to try it. You can download it at the following link:
It is important to say that in the case that the generic driver provided above does not work properly for your OEM system, the best step Is to contact the system manufacturer since the driver was provided to them and they could have customized the driver for their products.

Everything is working now thanks. Another issue that I only had with this one laptop was that for some reason the text scaling was reset when I upgraded - so I think its possible that an even earlier version of the driver still worked but I had not caught the text scaling change.

Hi ojhncb,
I am glad to hear that it is working now. I recommend you accessing Control Panel > Display> Change only text size so that you can change the text scaling option.

My problem was solved after installing driver version 10.18.10.3304. I got this one throught the Samsung SW Update.
