Missing Brightness and Control Slider for Gigabyte AERO 14 GTX1060 with HD530

I have a Gigabyte AERO 14 with GTX1060 and HD530 graphics. If I install any graphics driver later than 21.20.16.4526, the brightness control slider is no longer available from either the windows control panel or the hotkeys (Fn-F3/Fn-F4 on this machine).

There are a number of bugs in the driver I am currently using causing game crashes hence I want to move to the later DCH drivers (which fix the game problems) but without the brightness slider, I am unable to set the graphics brightness which appears fixed at around 50-60%.

I've attached a detailed bug report for this platform. I would really be appreciative for a fix as the problem is making the laptop fairly unworkable.

This problem occurred previously with my model of laptop and was addressed by a patch from Intel with support help from Gigabyte. It appears that since the driver architecture was recently upgraded to DCH, the problem of the missing brightness control has resurfaced.

I have followed this up with Gigabyte. In case anyone else needs to solve this problem, I can confirm that Gigabyte have now provided a patch to fix the missing brightness control which works with 26.20.100.7755, a reasonably late driver. Certainly better than the 21.x.x.x I was on previously.

Use the drivers provided by gigabyte for both nvidia and intel graphics. Gigabyte has modified the drivers, which means you have lost the customizations for their hardware.

Plus, with dual graphics, for the switching to work, you must use their drivers.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately you may not have read either the issue above, or what happened last time.

The problem at present is that various games are having problems with the existing Intel driver causing applications to regularly crash.

Last time I had this problem I raised here with Intel and also with Gigabyte, however Intel ultimately released the patch which fixed the missing brightness control. This was also the same patch that resolved issues on HP to my knowledge.

This is not a "you must use their drivers" solution.

No, you did not read my reply. WIth dual graphics you need to be using BOTH of the drivers provided by gigabyte.

And, as I said, the loss of customizations is caused by your using the intel generic driver.

Contact gigabyte for support of their hardware.

I read your reply and with respect you are still incorrect.

The driver supplied by Gigabyte at present is the STOCK Intel package 21.20.16.4526. This is the same driver used by DELL, eg:

https://www.dell.com/support/home/au/en/aubsd1/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=fh5p5

I believe it's also used by HP. It is NOT customised for my laptop and has nothing Gigabyte centric in it.

The only other drivers I have installed are Nvidia drivers which are also stock. The brightness control is part of the Intel package, not the Nvidia Package

You do not need to have "specialised" drivers from the vendor in this case - we already established that last time I had this issue and 21.20.16.4526 was created to address the problem.

Please let someone else have a go at answering.

I would be appreciative if someone from Intel would have a look as clearly this affects other manufacturers and models.

Intel drivers do not know all of the different laptop hardware brightness controls. The intel driver is customized/modified by the laptop manufacturer to use THEIR HARDWARE.

On laptops with dual graphics, both drivers are customized for the proper switching.

Use the drivers provided by the laptop manufacturer.

Hello Donnie,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

I would like to mention that Al Hill is providing the right answer, the recommendation is to use the drivers provided by the system manufacturer of your computer especially when it has dual graphics even if a different laptop (HP) worked fine with a generic drivers the systems are different brand and each of them have their own limitations and customizations some manufacturers can customize their system to work with specific components, drivers, etc.

It's worth mentioning that as previously indicated the issue does not happen when using the drivers provided by the system manufacturer 21.20.16.4526, your computer manufacturer may have altered the features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes.

My recommendation is to contact the system manufacturer to request a new DCH driver release with their respective customizations for your system.

Thank you Adrian. I've got a ticket with Gigabyte as well. I'll continue working with them to resolve this.

Hey

I found your post and I was wondering if you could help me because I can't seem to get the brightness control to work. (fn F4-f5 doesn't work and I no longer see any brightness control option on windows after updating)

I have the same laptop as you do and I tried upgrading to 26.20.100.7755 from 23.20.16.5018.

Then once the new driver was installed, I restarted the laptop and ran the ECO-brightness fix which you mentioned in your post but I can't seem to get this to work. (also the brightness fix is only 1mb?)

Were my steps any different from how you did?

I was thinking maybe that the version of windows 10 was different... Mine is 1909.

Thanks in advance!
