Problem with HEVC 4K 8-bit playback with Atom x7-Z8700 Cherry Trail

I have Surface 3 (Windows 10 x64) with the latest Graphic driver: 08/04/2015,10.18.15.4248

But when I play an HEVC 8-bit 4K video with Atom x7-Z8700, I get square artifacts:

Please solve the driver problem

Hi there PJay

PLease try the following driver.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26347/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40- Download Intel® Beta Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 and Windows 7*/8.1* [15.40]

Note that it may be expected that users will see performance or artifacts when playing content that is not

within the CHV\BSW HW codec support specs. See the info below:

/message/388818# 388818 https://communities.intel.com/message/388818# 388818

User reported on CHV:

  1. H.265 8bit 4K 59fps 78.2Mbps: Observe corrupted colors. This is expected behavior given the support spec below.

SteppingSupported Decode FormatNotesCHV\BSW A-stepHybrid HEVC 8bit DecodingNo support for Hybrid HEVC 10bit Decoding.

Up to 4096x2160@30fps bitrate@25MbpsCHV\BSW B-stepFixed Function HEVC 8bit DecodingNo support for FF HEVC 10bit Decoding.

Up to 4096x2160@30fps bitrate@25Mbps

From the CHV spec, for Decode H.265 Profile and Level support:

Main Profile and Level 5

Bitrate up to 25Mbps

Resolution 3840x2160@32fps

Resolution 4096x2160@30fps

Good

Who should know better if there is something wrong with the driver or the codecs if not the ones that created the OS which is on a product manufactured by them

@Ronin Not sure, something like not compatible...

Seems Microsoft doesn't wanna fix it, wasted $600 on a garbage device with no support.

Shouldn't expect more from Microsoft...

Hi PJay,

Try to install this driver https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25749/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40- Download Intel® Beta Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 and Windows 7*/8.1* [15.40]

Hi

I confirmed your chipset supports 4k, though there's nuances to robustness since it's a low power processor. Could you provide a link to a clip that fails for you? I'll track down a CHT Surface 3 here and push this into investigation.
