Scaling and Custom Resolutions Celeron J1900

I have a Celeron J1900 based PC and I am trying to get the HD Graphics set up and have encountered some problems.

My TV has a Philips 21:9 widescreen format that requires a lower resolution (1920 x 960 'ish) input from the PC to avoid over scanning and losing the start menus etc.

Having installed Win8.1 (update) and all the latest drivers and windows updates I still can't access the custom resolution options for the intel HD drivers.

The control panel looks massively crippled and the scaling option is just missing the slider altogether.

I have also tried using the standalone utility CustomModeApp.exe and CustomModeAppv2.exe which just refuse to start.

I also tried a utility from "Clever Technologies" to inject a custom resolution into the Registry but can't select it from the driver.

I have installed a number of driver versions (removing and deleting all previous drivers first) all with the same outcome.

I see a lot of similar but different issues in the Forum but no solution to this particular issue of not being able to see the scaling slider or running the utility.

Any suggestions on how to create a 1920 x 960 resolution?

zAo, I understand this was possible in previous driver versions but at this point it is not possible. However, I will pass this information to the corresponding department for future releases.

Orangejulius,

You can access the custom resolutions by typing in the Start Search Custommodeapp. Once you open it, you can create the resolutions. It is important to say that the resolutions you create may work depending on the monitor capabilities and system resources.

Thanks Kevin for passing it though.

Seriously; don't you ever run something in a different resolution? Any old game for instance? How do you coop with the problem?

Kevin, thanks for replying. I've tried using Custommodeapp as well as 2.0. Neither will start, even with Run as Administrator. From what I gather, it doesn't work with Windows 8.1. Can anyone provide a way around this? I thought maybe another driver was on the way, but I'm at a loss for what to do with this PC until this is resolved.

Yes Custommodeapp in 8.1 will not run.

If you need a persistent custom resolution my technique seems to be the only way. You have to disable driver signing in 8.1 (easy enough) and inject the custom resolution into the installation files and re-install your modified driver. The offer of help still stands!

P.S. Kevin please can you raise the Custommodeapp issue to the developers.

"This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software" Really?

Windows 8.1 64bit (choose 64bit version of the driver)

Also confirming that this beta package will refuse to install due to system requirements. I got around it by manually uninstalling the Intel HD driver, then inside device manager, pointing to the "Graphics" folder and installing it from there.

This beta driver still doesn't work. Scaling is still disabled, and CustomModeApp doesn't work. It has been over a month and no fix from Intel. Come on.

Octo, I'd appreciate any help you can give me!

Piling on to add that CustomModeApp doesn't do anything in 8.1. Highly irritating because I bought this computer to turn into an HTPC and specifically researched to make sure that the graphics worked with my older television. Octo, I will try to do what you recommended if the beta driver doesn't install for me. I'm sure there are many of us out there who would like a step by step guide or just where to add the resolution.

P.S. This website is a hot and cold rolling disaster. I've had to navigate back to this thread four times now, at first because registration dumps you on the home page, and then trying to post the first time dumps you there again, and now it appears to just be randomly auto-forwarding me there. Running vanilla Firefox 30.

YOU ARE TRYING THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! DO NOT BLAME ME IF THIS MAKES YOUR OS INOPERABLE/UNBOOTABLE! DO NOT USE THIS APPROACH ON PRODUCTION SYSTEMS!

OK to get a custom resolution requires some semi-advanced Computer knowledge but should be within the capabilities of most PC users.

1 - disable driver signing (because you are going to mod a drivers and break the secure signature)

do this by opening an elevated CMD window (Win + x is best way or right mouse over the start icon bottom left of screen and select command prompt (admin)

Cut and paste each of the commands below into the window (CTRL C and paste into window with the right mouse button)

bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

and then

bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON

close the window and reboot. Your desktop should have Test Mode etc showing in the bottom right if it worked.

2 - Download driver https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23885&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208.1%2C%2064-bit*&DownloadType=Drivers https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23885&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208.1%2C%2064-bit*&DownloadType=Drivers

3 - using 7zip utility or other extract the driver to your desktop.

4 - post here what resolution you are after and I'll add it and post a new file to use.

The resolution and required refresh rate eg 1920 x1012 @ 60 should do.

5 - Once you have the file drop it into the "Graphics" folder of the driver you unzipped and install the driver.

You should now have the resolution in the list to select and apply.

Note :- I use "DTD Calculator" to create the HEX code for the resolution and inject it into the inf files if anyone wants to do their own.

Octo, thanks for the rapid help, wow!

If you'd like to upload the file I would thank you forever. The resolution that I need is 1366x768@60.

Thanks in advance!!!

1366x768 @60 inf to try

Please post back with results.

As I stated above copy into the Graphics folder replacing the existing and install the drive as normal.

Thanks Octo, works perfectly! For future reference he added the DTD to the end of the list in line 2248 of that file and changed the value above it from 0 to 5...but I wouldn't have had any idea what to put in for the timings. I downloaded DTD Calculator but I was just fumbling around in the dark.

Thanks again!

I'm having the same problem with an N2930. Any chance I could get a modified driver with 1872x1048@60?

@octo

Hello

I use a J1900 Board (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00JQHUE3G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ASRock Q1900-ITX Mainboard) in my HTPC.

I want to connect a secondary display (7" Touchscreen, VGA) with native resolution 1024x600 @60Hz.

Could you generate the file for me?

BTW: The "download driver" link in your posting is broken.

Thank you!

Hello, morow:

I would like to know, have you tested the default drivers from your OS?

Also, please make sure your monitor can handle that resolution via HDMI as well as your device's interface (HDMI).

Are you using adapters? This could also affect the resolutions available to output.

I look forward to your outcome with this.

Esteban C

Just tried Display Port cable and the 2560x1440 is working. It looks the HDMI port is not able to display that resolution.

Thank you for the help.

Hello, morow:

I would like to say it could be a limitation from the specific device you are using, have you checked with the OEM?

No I didn't checked. Tronsmart BJ19 has two video outputs Mini DP and HDMI. I have 2 screen setup so the 1920x1200 is running via HDMI and the 2560x1440 through mini DP.

Hello, morow:

I understand, yes it could be a HDMI limitation as advise previously by you.

Could be related to the cable or the port not working properly.

If you require any further information or support feel free to contact us back.
