Shared GPU Memory Override option missing after update

I have a laptop with Intel Core Ultra 7 258V with intel arc 140V integrated graphics and 32GB RAM . After a recent driver update, I am missing the Shared GPU memory override option earlier found in the general settings. I ask since I need to run local LLMS for which sufficinet GPU memory allocation is required and this functionality is one of the main reasons why I purchased this system. (screenshot of driver version and missing option attached). Is this a temporary redaction for optimization, or has this feature been taken off from this series of GPUs? Kidnly reply

Hi Mixedhue,

I'm reaching out on behalf of my colleague regarding the graphics settings issue you recently reported.

I've conducted thorough testing of the issue you raised using a newly clean-installed Windows system. I'm pleased to inform you that I was able to confirm the settings functionality is available and working properly on driver version 32.0.101.8250.

To address the issue you encountered, please follow these steps in order:

  • Uninstall Intel Graphics Software (IGS):
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features (or Control Panel > Programs > Add or Remove Programs)
    • Locate Intel Graphics Software and uninstall it completely
  • Perform a Clean Driver Installation:
    • Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove any remaining graphics driver components
    • This ensures a fresh installation without conflicts from previous driver remnants
  • Install the Latest Graphics Driver:

These steps should resolve the settings availability issue you experienced. The clean installation process will ensure that any corrupted files or conflicting components are completely removed before installing the fresh driver.

Best regards,

Hi Mixedhue,

Thank you for reaching out to the Intel Community Forum. I appreciate your message and want to assure you that I’m here to assist you with your concern. To better understand the issue and provide accurate support, could you please share the following details:

  1. Where exactly was the "Shared GPU Memory Override" option located before? (General section, different tab, or separate Intel graphics interface?)
  2. What was your previous driver version where this option was working?
  3. Can you access BIOS/UEFI and do you see any graphics memory allocation options there?
  4. What GPU memory amount do your LLMs currently detect/report when running?

Additionally, to help us better understand your system configuration and provide accurate support, we kindly request that you share the Intel® System Support Utility (SSU) logs from your device. These logs contain important details about your hardware and software environment, which are crucial for troubleshooting.

Please follow these steps:

1. Download and run the Intel® SSU application.

2. The tool will generate a text file containing your system information.

3. Refer to this guide for detailed instructions: Help Guide for the Intel® System Support Utility

4. Once completed, please attach the generated file to your response.

If you have any additional questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Best regards,

Thank you for your response,
1. I used to see the Shared GPU override option under the "General" tab in the graphics section of the Intel Graphics software app.

I was initially able to use the slider in the override option to increase the ram allocated from 16GB(default), to 18 GB (which the system shows, but cannot change anymore), before I ran the first update.

2. I really don't remember the exact version number but graphics driver version started with 31. The current one has 32.
3. I donot see any graphics memory allocation in UEFI BIOS advanced setting directly, may be I need to enable something first.
4.This is a new laptop (acer aspire 14AI ). I haven't started running LLMS yet, but plan to run models like Gemma 3n or similar.
I ran the system support utility software, and I attach it for your reference.

Am I missing something here? A quick search in the internet tells me my configuration should support the override functionality. It certainly make life easier if it is just a slider I can change it to my desired setting when I want .

Let me know if there is anything else you require,
Thanks

Pranav

Hi Mixedhue,

Thank you for your patience.

After reviewing your setup, I noticed that you're currently using driver version 32.0.101.6042, which is provided by your OEM. However, to access the Shared GPU Memory Override feature, you’ll need at least version 32.0.101.6974. You can find more details here: Shared GPU Memory Override Feature and Requirements

To enable this feature, you’ll need to install Intel’s generic graphics driver. Please note that while this driver may unlock the feature, it might not be fully optimized for your system, as OEM drivers are specifically tailored to your device’s hardware.

Once installed, please check if the feature appears using the latest Intel drivers available here: Intel® Arc™ Graphics - Windows*

If you have any questions or need help with the installation, feel free to reach out.
