Sometimes Windows sees a second monitor connected but I only have one.
The motherboard is: GRYPHON Z97 ARMOR EDITION
CPU Installed: Intel Core i7 4790S (Intel HD Graphics 4600)
Intel HD Graphics driver version: 15.36.14.4080 (latest)
Windows version: 8.1 Pro 64-bit.
My "monitor" is an LG TV.
I can't really say how to reproduce since I don't always see this.
When it happens I have a "Viritual monitor" under "Display settings" for Intel HD Graphics settings.
Below is three screenshots of settings when is happens. Sorry but they are in Swedish.
The last one (from Intel HD Graphics Setings), shows it is a Intel WiDi display( whats that?)
Now sure but it seems to happen when Windows turn of Display (energy saving mode) and TV is on but showing TV not the cumputer screen.

Hi spacebug,
This is very strange. I would think the system was previously connected to another device using Intel® WiDi and the profile is still there.
Just in case, here you have more information about Intel® WiDi:

Hi Kevin.
No it has never been connected using WiDi.
This is a brand new PC set togehter by me.
Fresh install of windows 8.1.
Only and always connected to my LG TV through HDMI.
I downloaded an app to my Android phone to search for WiDi displays but none could be found.
Removing the HDMI-cable and plugging it in again makes the WiDi display go away.

This sounds very strange. I have not seen reports from other customers with issues like the one you have so I would say it is an isolated issue.
I recommend you reinstalling the graphics driver as troubleshooting step. Here you can get it:

If you have problems during the installation try these steps:
