Stuck at 120 HZ

Hello i have an external monitor at my laptop the laptop display gets 144hz i bought HDMI 2.0 cable and the laptop hdmi output also support 2.0 but my external monitor is stuck at 120 hz any reasons for this i have Intel i7 11th gen and a nvidia gpu rtx 3050 ti
