Hi Guys,
I am using a toshiba WT200 that has an intel GMA3600 video chipset. When you launch metro apps, the sys file from the driver causes a BSOD. I have tried this microsoft OLE fix, but to no avail (see http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itprogeneral/thread/b0e4f9a3-4c96-4e6f-9399-71fc5813853c Metro apps won&# 39;t start under consumer preview of Windows 8 )
Is there a beta driver suitable for this device coming, that will alleviate this issue?
Thanks, Chris

Windows 8 & Cedartrail update: My set up is intel D2500HN + 60GB SSD + 2gb ram+ Windows 8 pro media centre ed
Took help from Microsoft service. Install windows 8 pro upgrade again. It automatically installed Microsoft Basic Display driver. As a result everything works including store/app on 1024x768 monitor. Windows Experience index on graphics 2.2(2D) & 2 (3D). Does not support Full HD display resolution (distorted).
Reinstalled GMA 3600 driver from intel (version 1083). App/Store crashes, Desktop works fine. support FullHD resolution. 720p video play works. You tube with 480p. Windows Experience index on graphics 3.2 & 3.1(3D) on 1024x768 monitor and 2.8, 3.1(3D) on 1080p monitor.
Installed a hacked/experimental driver from http://rapidshare.com/files/3816534333/win8GMA.7z http://rapidshare.com/files/3816534333/win8GMA.7z on a suggestion from this forum. Windows experience index 3.2(2D) & 3.2(3D). App/store crashes and screen flickers but desktop is faster.
run from USB live dvd version of 64bit mint Linux 13. Boots and works fine on 1024x768 monitor. Libre office runs well. video stutters in 480p. Other than video 64bit Linux Mint 13 (Mate version) works fine. Not tested after install or on a HD monitor.

Well this is a very nasty surprise, I installed Windows 8 32 bit because I read that the DN2800MT board was compatible. Now I'm having a lot of trouble wth the graphics because there are no GMA 3600 drivers for Windows 8.
Quite frankly I feel totally conned by Intel, why say this board is compatible with Windows 8 in the first place? I think this is very misleading. Now I'm left with one option - buy Windows 7 or put up with a system that does not work properly......nice!
The worst symptom of all this for me is that if I forget to turn my monitor on first I get no signal at all out of the HDMI. That means I can't turn of or re-start my PC I have to turn the PC off and on again!!!
Other than that I get a rather small or distorted GUI on my widescreen monitor.
In desperation I did try and install the Windows 7 3600 driver but as you might expect it was totally unstable.
Surely this can't be a huge issue for Intel to sort out, I am appalled that they seem happy to leave their customers high and dry like this.

Gateway LT4004u I bought from Best Buy this summer is not compatible with Microsoft Windows 8. That is just pathetic. I know the problem is intel gma 3600. I looked for intel inside. What a Joke. I can't believe your just going to let this problem go on.

Indeed, it is an utter joke, hardware that is still on sale having absolutely no software support, sans a buggy 32bit Windows 7 driver...

Have anybody tried with a PCI graphics card or CrystalHD decoder cards on any of the CedarTrail boards to see if that works at least for desktop boards.?

A PCIe graphics card probably won't work as it'll draw too much power through the slot, I think the Cedar Trail chipset can only provide low-profile (<10W) power :-
/message/158904 http://communities.intel.com/message/158904
And a CrystalHD decoder is a decoder only for H264/WMV/MP4 video etc, all of which work okay on the PowerVR SGX 545 (about the only thing that does...)

I tried to upgrade my laptop to Windows 8, found out it didn't work the hard way, discovered why thanks to this forum, then downgraded to Windows 7.
So let's sum up the situation : Intel produces a graphic chipset that doesn't work properly under Microsoft's new OS released the very same year. This issue has been known for 7 months, and Intel will do nothing to address it for no good reason ("older graphics controller" ? seriously ?).
To me, this is a big stain over Intel's reputation. Next time I upgrade my hardware, I will be thinking twice before choosing Intel again.

This is what irks me the most, look how old this thread is and when we noticed the problems. And it took until only recently for Intel to acknowledge the issue, and then say we aren't going to get a driver anyway.
If they had told us about this earlier on, there would be less people burned by it.
Unacceptable behavior really.

And on top of this, there is absolutely no warning about that in Microsoft compatibility assistant for Windows 8. When I told it to a Microsoft rep, the answer was "it works with the default driver, so it's compatible."
pfff...

Does anyone have the improved drivers for better 2D performance that they can share? The files are no longer available on Rapidshare. Thank you.

Apparently it has to do with Rapidshare's new permission settings.
"Rapidshare changed the default folder settings from public to private. If you haven't specifically made them public in the permissions they now are locked down. You will need to adjust the permissions for every folder."

Nope. You still need to make it a public file so others can download it. By default permissions are no longer setup that way, as of a few weeks ago.
