Win8 CP, GMA 3600 Drivers crashing under metro

Hi Guys,

I am using a toshiba WT200 that has an intel GMA3600 video chipset. When you launch metro apps, the sys file from the driver causes a BSOD. I have tried this microsoft OLE fix, but to no avail (see http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itprogeneral/thread/b0e4f9a3-4c96-4e6f-9399-71fc5813853c Metro apps won&# 39;t start under consumer preview of Windows 8 )

Is there a beta driver suitable for this device coming, that will alleviate this issue?

Thanks, Chris

Hello,

At this moment there are no plans to release a Microsoft* Windows* 8 driver for this platform.

We suggest that you use the operating system that came originally in your Original Equipment Manufacturer Computer and use the drivers provided by the OEM. Otherwise you could use Microsoft* Windows* 8 however with the limited capabilities that the "inbox" driver that comes with this operating system offers.

Diego, thanks for the suggestion (ironic).

So I should just revert to Win7 or whichever OS I had on my machine prior to installing Win8, for which I paid an extra licensing fee AND only because MS upgrade assistant told me my setup was win8 compatible?

I'm not talking about modern UI compatibility, because that's a screen resolution limit (nonsense as it might have been, but I was aware of that); no, here we're talking about proper DirectX 10/11 compliance and basic stuff like like that. We're talking about flawed Win7 drivers in the first place.

This is unacceptable. Intel want to kill netbooks altogether, and that's fine to me, as long as they give proper support to customers who already bought a machine and must be provided with functional drivers.

There's no way you can call GMA3600 an old or outdated piece of hardware, it's not like asking for i486 support!

One more thing: how come the latest version of the gma driver on the intel site is 8.14.8.1065, but you can find so many "newer" official releases around the internet (e.g. version 8.14.8.1089 on the motioncomputing site)?

Lastly, if Intel is not going to develop these faulty drivers any more, why don't they just release the source code, so whoever is able can try and develop a better driver?

Thank you.

I must admit these latest 1089 drivers are great. My Aspire One D270 +2GB RAM is more responsive, quicker. I'm on Windows 8 32bit and the drivers work great with no issues. I got them off the CL910 tablet website. Even though my Desktop Graphics Performance rating decreased from 3.2 to 3.0. I feels faster! Can anyone provide likewise experiences?

Lima Scott,

With no issue ? You get to run metro apps?

Diego,

Intel can not through away his customers like that..?

This APU is still being produced ans sold. (got mine yesterday).

Out for one year, win8 final version out on october, less that ni ne monts support?

Can't be serious ?

Rgds

Running metro apps isn't possible on 1024x600. But I definitely see an improvement over 1083 drivers. Glad Intel are making somewhat of an effort even if they are only giving the latest drivers to OEM's

Liam, I can't really tell any difference myself, I've just updated to these 1089 drivers from the 1077's that my tablet OEM provided. I'm not certain how reliable the windows experience scores are, but my memory score (Win7 x86) decreased from 4.7 to 4.6 (?) and my desktop graphics went up to 5.7 from 5.6. I ran the benchmark a couple of times to see if there was any variation, but got the same scores. The 3D graphics score was unchanged at 3.2 for both drivers.

The 8.14.8.1089 drivers are still quite poor unfortunately, even for Windows 7 usage.

Still shocking is that 2D performance hasn't been addressed :-

I guess that the hardware is fundamentally broken somehow in this regard, at least under Windows/DirectX.

I upgraded to .1089 but I couldn't notice any improvements.

I ran a performance assessment and I noticed at first that my desktop graphics index value had decreased from 3.1 to 2.9.

Then I tinkered a bit with the Intel graphics CP (GfxUI.exe), but the only thing I could tweak/modify in any way was the 3D preference slider under the 3D menu tab. The slider goes from "performance" to "quality" and has a middle, unnamed step. On "performance" mode, I got a marking of 2.9 whereas with the slider in either middle or "quality" position I got an amazing 3.0 (talkin' about desktop graphics, all the oher markings stayed the very same during all assessments, besides a dramatic bump in the "memory" marking when the 3D preference slider was on "quality").So globally, my windows experience index decreased from 3.1 to 3.0 with these new drivers, but again, I didn't notice any improvement or deterioration performance-wise.Sorry for the italic, but I couldn't turn it off!

I installed the 89 drivers and I got no improvement to. I ran the experience index, but my score remained the same. I have heard about modded drivers for win 8. Any experience?

Thanks for your feedback.

Why Intel cannot do a new Driver for Windows 8? In this moment AMD is better than Intel.

I wonder why Intel can't just do up a simple software based driver for Windows 8 like the basic display adapter but with support for resolution for more than 1024 x 768. I don't think that is too much to ask and I am pretty sure that can be done quite easily. Why can't Intel do similar gestures to at least show that they are still committed to the care of users of this platform?

it is possible use metro apps in desktop environment, this make possible use metro apps.

I do not know why ??? but is metro apps running in window desktop are useful, instead runned in metro start you experienced BSOD,

METRO WIN 8 APPS do work very well in desktop windows GMA3600 system

it is probably the only way to enjoy metro exp in win 8, unfortunately modernmix is not freeware

I also no longer would not buy anything with Intel.

The first and last time bought hardware from Intel.

It is a pity that I am in the first week of this subquality is not carried back to the store ...

Hi Xaman,

At this point Intel® currently has no plans for releasing Windows 8* graphics drivers for GMA 3600. If they may be available, be sure that this will be announced.

For more information on Microsoft* Windows* 8 driver availability, please refer to this article:

I have the intel N2600 GMA 3600 and i´m using Windows 8.1 and i tested the

new driver (1096) and it has better performance than 1091 but

it still has same problem with Windows 8 and 8.1. Crash and Blue screen when i

try to use the metro!!!

The problem: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (igdkmd32.sys)

I´m glad to now that you didn´t forget the consumers but why don´t you fix this problem???

And I have a i3 Graphic HD 4000 (drive v3308) with Windows

8.1 that i can´t update to v3345, it claiming incompatibility!!!

Bottom line: I have two problems with intel and I´m not see you repairing this.

Why don´t you do your job???? WHY????

Definitely my next processor is an AMD

Reproduced.

This is a brand new mini-PC with windows 8.1 Pro installed and intel refuses to update the damn driver. Very frustrating.
