Hi Guys,
I am using a toshiba WT200 that has an intel GMA3600 video chipset. When you launch metro apps, the sys file from the driver causes a BSOD. I have tried this microsoft OLE fix, but to no avail (see http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itprogeneral/thread/b0e4f9a3-4c96-4e6f-9399-71fc5813853c Metro apps won&# 39;t start under consumer preview of Windows 8 )
Is there a beta driver suitable for this device coming, that will alleviate this issue?
Thanks, Chris

It is somebody from INTEL, going to support us with information or with some beta driver?
There are a lot of people with this hardware waitting on Intel, Microsoft and the whole of internet forums.
Now if you use the W7 driver, works everything but the Metro. But if the Microsoft native driver is used, video and 3D is not running well, but you can use Metro apps.
I think that this means that the hardware is almost a good one, but needs some good driver to make it run on both enviroments.

I get the impression that the current driver for the hardware simply isn't fully capable on many D3D calls, which is the reason 3D performance is very poor and glitchy (just try running a selection of modern games on Cedar Trail!), what they probably need to do is to hybridize and offload more work to the CPU where possible, so we can at least get smoother 2D and working Metro/WinRT applications. (The generic 'Microsoft Basic Display' driver is a superb example of this)
If the SGX 545 just plain sucks at Direct2D/3D (We know it's fine for video acceleration), then Intel should at least try and work around it with the CPU and give folks a usable desktop experience.
Heck even a Gallium LLVMpipe software renderer runs better than what we've got at the moment.

Nope, apparently not. With Intel refusing to comment there's little we can do other than keep checking the download pages and hope for the best.
Obviously voicing our frustrations has fallen completely on deaf ears...

There may be some light at the end of the tunnel after the revelation the the new Clovertrail platform is also based on PowerVR SGX 545 GPU hardware :-
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6340/intel-details-atom-z2760-clovertrail-for-windows-8-tablets AnandTech - Intel Details Atom Z2760: Clovertrail for Windows 8 Tablets
If it's designed work for Windows 8, than hopefully we'll have a compatible driver trickle down for Cedartrail hardware also, seeing as there isn't a huge amount of difference (other than the fact that Clovertrail is WinRT based)

Clovertrail is X86 and runs the Windows 8 full version, not RT. So hey, maybe is there is a ray of hope. Howeverr, the PowerVR core in GMA 3600 is clocked 400mzh / GMA3650 clocked at 600mhz while z2760's gpu is 533mhz, wonder how that is going to turn out

Clovertrail is x86, but it can only run WinRT not the full Windows 8 because it's fundamentally an SoC and an evolution of Medfield, and therefore lacks a PCI bus etc and other legacy hardware that would enable it to run a standard x86 OS.

I am pretty sure z2760 will full Win 8 version and it will not be the first Intel SoC x86 chip to do so. The oaktrail z670 runs Windows 8 full but the Metro App is too slow to be useful (hint, it too has powerVR core and has Driver issue, what are the chances! )
Here is the quotes from CloverTrail based tablet oems on Intel website
http://download.intel.com/newsroom/kits/atom/z2760/pdfs/IntelAtomz2760_Based_Tablets-Quotes.pdf http://download.intel.com/newsroom/kits/atom/z2760/pdfs/IntelAtomz2760_Based_Tablets-Quotes.pdf
No one mentioned Windows 8 RT and a lot of them mentions "business oriented" use.which is the marketing word for this thing runs X86 applications.
so the short answer is, hey maybe there is a ray of hope for us.

Please join the petition here:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/gma600/ Windows 8 support for Intel Atom Tablets
As I have stated in a long post in /message/167814# 167814 this thread Intel has completely dropped the ball, not just regarding the fact that they currently intend specifically to exclude GMA 500, 600, 3600, 3650 and other previously released Atom GPU parts from Windows 8 driver support, but the current Windows 7 driver acceleration is unacceptable and does not meet with their own promises made http://embedded.communities.intel.com/community/en/hardware/blog/2010/11/22/roving-reporter-advanced-graphics-and-hd-video-on-the-new-intel-atom here.
If Intel fixed the Windows 7 drivers to support all of the features promised, porting the driver to Windows 8 would merely be an exercise in updating the decorations in the INF file and updating file signatures. This is specifically why so many people with other GPUs are able to get full HW acceleration in Windows 8 from Windows 7 drivers. For standard Metro and most 3D calls, only Directx 10 support is necessary.
Any lawyers in the house interested in filing a class action? The Z series Atoms were sold to OEMs at a significant premium largely due to the GPU chops and power usage they promised. In quantity they ranged from $60-80 where other similar Atom chips were selling for $10-30 and ARM based solutions with the same GPUs for $5-20.
Anyone with a Z series Atom paid a substantial premium for their device for the advanced features Intel promised to support. Now they are reneging on that promise in order to sell a new generation of netbooks and tablets. Essentially, software disabling of hardware features already paid for is being used specifically to force upgrades.

I too am upset at the lack of support, especially with the release of Windows 8 just weeks away. I really need to know if I'm going to be able to upgrade clients to Windows 8 or tell them "Sorry, your 4 month old system can't be upgraded to Windows 8". So, Intel, will you answer one very simple question:
Can we or can we not expect an updated driver for the GMA 3600 series?

Hey, guys, i am not sure whether this is a good news,
but look here:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215680 Newegg.com - Acer W510-1666 Tablet Intel Atom Z2760&# 40;1.50GHz&# 41; 10.1&# 34; 2GB Memory LPDDR2 800 64GB internal storage Intel GMA 3650
A new windows 8 tablet called acer w510 with CPU atom z2760, and the GPU is GMA3650!!! Which means there is a hope for us.
by the way, maybe there are some language mistake, i am a chinese, not really good at english - _ -...sry...

It looks like it's the same SGX545 GPU in Clover Trail, but the performance is still likely to be lacklustre :-

More fuel for the fire :-
The tested systems cannot be upgraded from Microsoft Windows 7 operation system to Microsoft Windows 8 operation system due to Cedar Trail chipset is not supporting upgrade to Windows 8.

I think the GPU using in the acer w510 or any other tablets with atom z2760 inside are the same as gma3600/3650, but running in different clock.Besides, intel has not release the driver for z2760 yet, and there is a manufacturer in China released a windows 8 tablets called LIVEFAN F1 on COMPUTEX 2012, and i have asked the service, they siad intel will release the driver for gma3600, but i am not sure whether what they said is true or not.

I guess it depends whether Cedar Trail and Clover Trail actually use the same driver, if they do, then we may be in luck with an in-the-box Windows 8 final release. But with very little info released so far, it's impossible to be sure.

Hi everyone,
I posted this under the "When oh when" Intel 3600 forum, but I figured I should try over here, as well.
I understand that Samsung posted drivers for its Atom Z2760 powered Slate 5 today. I am unclear if GMA 3600 or 3650 is running under the hood of that device. I tried to install the driver on a Fujitsu Q552 (which runs Windows 8 metro apps under the standard Microsoft driver, albeit at 1024 x 768 and no sleep mode), but had no luck (could not install on this version of Windows) even with an attempted manual INF installation. The error is always "the driver can't install under this version of Windows." The link to the driver is below.
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/XE500T1C-A01US http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/XE500T1C-A01US
Is anyone out there available to tinker with this? Members of Intel, are there any generic drivers for the graphics chips on the Z2760-powered devices out there?
I'm hoping the other manufacturers post their drivers soon... Especially Dell, given that the Latitude 10 supports the same resolution as the Q552 (1280 x 800). Acer is another thought, given the rumors of the W510 potentially running a GMA 3600-related GPU, as Jacob.Z mentioned...

Thanks again for the info, the driver looks good and I'd guess that the INF has to be altered slightly by adding the devices from an older INF (I've done this before with the Toshiba .1082 driver)
But yes it looks like we may be in luck

Hey PA. Well I hope it works, I think it will be a bit more involved than that.
Since technically this is for 2 different hardware (per hardware ID), editing INF alone probably won't do it. The driver pack is certified (with a digital signature) to match to hardware id, so you need to digitally signed it with a correct signature that matches our hardware ID. (My description may not be 100% correct, but this is the general idea)
look at this discuss post # 2. see the certificate installer and learn a bit more. basically the guy tried to do the same for GMA 500 (using new GMA 600 driver) as we want for GMA 3600
