Windows 10 crashing with notice Display Driver Failed to Start?

Windows 10 gives message that "Display Driver Failed to Start" defaulted to Microsoft. Within a few computer freezes then goes black but does not shut down. I am manually shutting and rebooting with a repeat. I managed to stay up long enough to check to see if any updates to my Intel(R) HD graphics and it says it is up to date. I am trying to get this message in before the next crash. There was a recent Windows 10 update. Any suggestions?

Hello Wickgeo

Thank you for contacting us.

I understand that you have issues with your Windows 10 machine which is crashing with the "Display Driver Failed to Start" error.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience that this could be causing.

The error is also known as Time-out Detection and Recovery (TDR). The screen turns off and on instantly. This behavior can occur in Windows 7*, 8*, 8.1*, or Windows® 10.

We released a Display driver containing a fix to address multiple causes of this error. Released in April 2016 (version 15.40.22.4424), all drivers since that date include this fix. Other causes of the error may exist, so we recommend maintaining your drivers up to date.

You can test by installing our latest generic drivers (zip) from here:

I strongly recommend a manual installation of our drivers, in case you have any question on how to do it, you will find all the instructions here:
