graphics problems with docker

Hi, I am running docker V4.17 together with wsl V2 on my HP Pavilion 13-an1230ng. The screen appears as if my card was dying (black, blurred image, irritating behaviour on mouse movements) but runs normally as soon as I deinstall docker.

Many web posts claim the intel graphics driver to be the reason for this behaviour, but I don't know which driver version I should install, graphics is the onboard UHD 10gen for the i5-1035G1 CPU @ 1.00GHz.

Could you please indicate, which version of graphics driver is compatible with docker and wsl?

Many thanks
Chris

chris_her, You are very welcome, thank you very much for providing that information and the SSU report.

Thank you very much as well for clarifying those details about Docker. According to the SSU document, the graphics driver version currently installed on your computer is 26.20.100.7926, which is provided by HP and should be the proper driver for your device since it is customized by them:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-pavilion-13-an0000-laptop-pc/23238359/swItemId/ob-249375-1

Since the issue remains with that driver, even though the Intel® graphics drivers are generic, for testing purposes, please try a clean installation of our latest graphics driver version 31.0.101.2115, following the instructions in the links below:

We also recommended to get in contact with HP Support to make sure the latest BIOS version is currently installed on your machine:

chris_her, Thank you for posting in the Intel® Communities Support.

In reference to this scenario, it is important to mention that we always recommend to install the graphics driver provided by the manufacturer of the computer, since that driver was customized by them to work with your specific platform.

In order for us to provide the most accurate assistance regarding your questions, we just wanted to confirm a few details about your system:

Which video port are you using to connect the dock to the laptop?

Was the docker working fine before with this specific machine?

If yes, when did the issue start?

Did you make any recent hardware/software changes that might cause this issue?

Which Windows* version are you using?

Does the problem happen at home or in the work environment?

Please attach the SSU report so we can verify further details about the components in your platform, check all the options in the report including the one that says "3rd party software logs":

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows-?product=91600

Any questions, please let me know.

Thanks for your quick response, Albert!

Docker is a Linux based software to manage containers that I try to use in the course of my studies of data science. It requires both the wsl and the VM platform to be activated within my Windows environment to be installed / run.

As I found by trial and error, it is the (required) activation of the VM platform tag in my Windows 10 program features, that messes with my GPU / graphics driver. Also, when I deinstall docker, but activate the VM platform tag, the problem appears. As soon as I activate this feature, after restarting, my screen goes blank or blinking, mostly on mouse movements but also at the opening of a new window.

The problem is non-permanent, but oftenly recurring and whenever the display was working I would find docker working without problems, to my judgement. I am not running any other virtual machines or anything alike on my system. The problem immediately and permanently disappears after deactivating the VM platform feature, even if docker stays installed.

Please find my ssu report attached.

Kind regards and many thanks for your support

Chris

Dear Albert,

I am very glad to say that it is working. Thank you very much for your quick solution and the good explanation. It was easy to handle and worked perfectly. I can run the system with VM plattform and have no problems anymore. I didn't expect to find a solution for this problem. Good to know that Intel has such a good support, as we got no response from other support requests.

All the best,

Chris
