problem with HDMI and Intel HD Graphics 4000

After installing the latest drivers from Intel HD Graphics 4000 is no longer output the picture on TV connected via HDMI. When removing intel driver and install a standard driver windows 7 TV through HDMI works in clone mode desktop. If start the installation of the latest drivers from Intel after installation and before rebooting the PC it works perfectly - there is an image on the TV, it can be configured as a clone mode and the extended desktop mode, but after rebooting the image on the TV disappears. How to make the TV displays the image after restart the PC with the latest drivers Intel HD Graphics 4000?

CPU - core i5 3570K

MotherBoard - Gigabyte Z77-DS3H

Win 7 64bit

No discrete graphics card

TV - Philips 32PFL8404H

Realistically, without being able to personally reproduce the issues ourselves, the only thing we could do was speculate on what the problem might be. It wasn't long ago that there was a largely reported black-screen problem that was resolved mostly by using/replacing the HDMI cables being used (did you know you're not supposed to bend, or coil HDMI cables the same way you probably would with every other cable?).

Other than that, the majority of these issues have two things in common; 1. They are happening 99% on OEM systems, and 2. They are all running our hardware. The issue may very well be one of these things, but may also be an issue with the displays or cables. That's why we need to get ahold of a known-failing system in order to diagnose the problem. If it's an issue with the BIOS or video-BIOS, we can figure that out with the failing system. If it's an issue with our driver, we can pinpoint the problem, but only with a failing system. If it's the cables/display, it's probably the easiest to diagnose, but most impossible to correct as there are an infinite amount of displays on the market with non-modifiable software.

Hope this was a bit of insight for you - and I hope we can get ahold of a failing system soon!

I found this thread which is the same problem I am having:

This has to be a software issue, since the display is totally fine before windows loads, everything from bios including the windows loading screen is fine. Also, when I install the driver, half-way through the driver setup, my 2nd display gets recognized and the display is active. So this can't be a cable issue, but has something to do with the software/driver under windows. In this case, users from Windows 7 and Windows 8 are both experiencing this problem.

My question is, during the driver installation, 'what' triggers the display to work? It happens exactly in the same phase during the driver installation. Perhaps, if we can create a small program which can just perform that trigger action, that would be great. So instead of having to reinstall the driver every time I connect to my 2nd display, I can just run the trigger program. I can record my driver installation to indicate at what stage the display gets recognized, will that be useful?

@globe_trotter: If only it were that simple... we've already purchased a system (an Asus* UX31A specifically) not too long ago in an attempt to reproduce the problem. However the system we received did not show the problem, regardless of which driver we used. It worked perfectly fine, which is the reason we need to get ahold of an actual user system that is experiencing the problem.

@Ahmad: If you can provide a video of your display-failure during the install, that'd be cool. There are a few other factors at work though, aside from the cable that might result in the issue, such as display firmware/drivers too.

Hi nic

I can confirm the following: if I connect my UX31A via mini HDMI to the TV and boot, I get the "windows loading" logo on the TV screen for a few seconds, afterwards, windows seems to load the driver or whatever, and there is no more signal on the TV screen.

If you're not able to reproduce the error, why not sending an engineer over for records?

Or: I'm willing to send over my UX31A if you replace it by the same (same keyboard, need QWERTZ) plus some goodies 😉

I'd like to contribute to this discussion.

I am experiencing this exact problem for as long as you've known about it and have been posting in this thread about it. I am running an Acer Aspire V3-771G. I have run Windows 7, Windows 8 (with ClassicShell,) Arch Linux and Ubuntu 12.04 on this machine. On all of those platforms, this issue had come up in some way or another.

globe_trotter is correct in how this situation plays out. But, along with that issue, in all the time spent on Linux installed on this machine, graphics have been strange. HDMI output is the only output recognized by linux, until you have the OS fully installed, and you can change monitor settings (changing resolutions around until the desired res. was selected was what I did.)

My main point in all this is that I have a friend with a Lenovo laptop with just HD 4000 graphics installed, and no dedicated graphics card. He can easily output to HDMI. The difference between his machine and mine is that, along with HD 4000, my laptop is equipped with NVidia Optimus graphics tech. Seems like, a machine devoid of that will not experience this issue, but, with that equipped, there are issues. Can others with the discussed problem say whether their machines have Optimus installed?

Before installing the intel drivers there is no issue! Both DVI-D and HDMI are working without any problems.

After installing the intel drivers, I need to disable and re-enable the driver via Windows 7 Device Manager.

The dual-head config works until the next reboot of the system.

Hi Tom,

Can you post a copy of the systems dxdiag please? (Start -> Run -> dxdiag -> Save All Information). Also, what displays are you connecting to? Are you only experiencing a black-screen on the HDMI connection, or the DVI as well?

Hi nic,

as a matter of fact I can't...I don't have any access to the system right now and I won't until friday.

The first Screen is a Samsung Syncmaster 22" monitor

The second a 42" Flat-Screen from LG

Since there are already 6 pages with users having problems and it's pretty clear to all of us, that there _IS_ a problem with the driver, when can we expect a fix for this?

The thread was startet over 2 months ago and you guys weren't able to reproduce the problem? oh come on!

A pretty weak performance for a company like Intel....

I totally agree, it is not the performance that users expect from Intel.

I offered various options (sending my Ultrabook for an exchange and some goodies) or they can send an engineer over, but obviously the interest of Intel is not that high as no of the offers were considered.

Which is good for AMD in the end I guess. I seriously will have a more detailed look on AMD ultrabooks as well if I have to buy a next one.

I start to lose patience and I think I'm not the only one.

@paschdan: Thanks for the information. We'll track it along with the other user configurations having the issues.

@Tom Zed: Out of the past 6 pages, there are about 35 users experiencing similar black screen issues. However, not a single one of them has occurred on an Intel® system that is NOT a NUC (different issue). If we could get it reported about an Intel® board, I can personally test the issue for reproduction. However, since the systems experiencing the problem are not Intel® systems, I don't have immediate access to their configurations. At this point we are trying to get one of the failing OEM systems in our hands so that we can identify what the disconnect is between the Intel® hardware, the drivers, and the OEM hardware. Currently we have not been able to get ahold of any failing hardware configurations.

@globe_trotter: We need an entire failing configuration in order to reproduce the problem. We can't half-do it with just the system having the issues, we need the system, the display, and all the hardware in between. Thank you for your offer - let me know if the entire setup becomes available.

By Intel® system I am referring to one that uses an Intel® processor and an Intel® motherboard. Those are the system we develop and test, as well as the system we have access to for troubleshooting purposes. By non-Intel® system, I am referring to one that (may) use an Intel® processor, but the CPU itself is adopted onto OEM hardware (such as Asus*, GIgabyte*, or ASRock*). We do not readily have those system available to use for troubleshooting purposes.

Even if we did though, the same configuration is not guaranteed to have the problem, as I previously stated when we attempted to reproduce the issue using an Asus* UX31A (which we obtained after being told they were reliably causing the problem - they were not). This is why it is important for us to be able to obtain a complete user setup that is experiencing the problem (display, system, cable). We cannot identify the problem on a system that doesn't produce the issue, we can only do it on a system that does experience the problem. So far we do not have any complete, failing-configurations with which to test.

I would ask again that if anyone in this thread has a complete system they are willing to provide (again, complete = display, cable, system) we will research and hopefully diagnose the issue. Send me a private message if you feel your system is a failing configuration and you would like to see the problem fixed.

Whatever...

Fixed it by deinstalling the _INTEL_ driver for the _INTEL_ graphic chip.

Displays work as expected with standard Windows 7 drivers...since my friend doesn't need any graphic power that seems like a fair compromise to me.

I don't want to waste any more time to this issue. Really got better stuff to do...

Hello, I'm having the same Issues with the following specs:

PC: Lenovo ThinkCentre M72E, Windows8

Monitor 1: Samsung SyncMaster S24B350 (Connected to VGA)

Monitor 2: Samsung SyncMaster S24B350 (Connected to DVI via DVI2HDMI adapter -> HDMI Cable -> HDMI IN in Monitor)

Without reneabling the graphics card my second Monitor is not recognized.

Hello everyone!

I read this thread for a while and since i saw nothing new around...i started making my voice heard. I also realized that there is some problem with the hdmi output from the integrated video card. So even if I have a Pentium G2020 with Intel 2500 Graphics the problem still persists on this model also. I even sent back my display to the manufacturer because of this issue(thinking that's the problem). I have 1 month since i'm dealing with it. HDMI works "from time to time" the signal starts only in specific situations (when he wants). Sorry of being rude but i think there's no interest in getting this job done. My main issue with the video card is that it doesn't let my monitor go in standby mode. It's always flashing the "going to standby mode" message in a loop. I tested the display with a PNY Geforce 8500GT, no problem found. I can provide you any kind of information that can be used in tracking the wrong code. I put my trust in Intel for getting things done shortly.

Hello,

I belive I'm also having this problem. I'm trying to connect my laptop (ASUS K55VM-SX078V) via HDMI cable (direct connection) to my TV (Grundig 32 VLC 9141 T2). Neither of the two devices recognize the other. When I installed the latest Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver the PC recognized the TV (a second display named something like '2. GRUNDIG TV' was present in 'Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display\Screen Resolution') BUT the TV still didn't get any signal despite trying various alternatives such as changin resolution, cloning display, extending display etc. After reboot again neither device recognized the other.

Hey guys, one more user with the same problem:

Install Intel drivers > 2.cnd monitor (BenQ V2200) comes on.

Reboot > Black screen, no where to chose a seconday monitor in Intel Graphics

Install driver again > 2.cnd monitor comes on.

I'm not going to post that huge system dump file, becase I doubt it will help at this point, how ever my system is:

Asus Zenbook Prime (UX31A) running windows 8 64bit.

Pleeeeaaase fix this intel!
