"The directory name is invalid" when trying to update Intel HD Graphics 4000

My OS: Windows 10 pro x64 1909 (OS build 18363.959)
Processor:  i7-3770k

When I try to update the Intel Graphics to version 15.33.50.512 (which Intel assistant says supports my system) or downgrade to any other version, it says "installing..." but then gives a message "Windows found drivers for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install them. The directory name is invalid."

Can someone please tell me which directory it is looking for so I can solve this?

Thank you.

RoundRocks, Thank you for posting in the Intel® Communities Support.

Just to let you know, the Intel® HD Graphics 4000 controller is under status of: End Of Interactive Support / Discontinued.

As an option you may want to try our Discontinued Products Community to get recommendations from fellow community members.:

First, this is the forum I was referred to by a reply on Intel Twitter private message.

Second, the discontinued products page you mentioned (https://communities.intel.com/community/tech/discontinued-products) results in a 404 error message, page not found.
