Hello,
I am trying to resolve an issue with using 3 displays (1 of which is the laptop's built-in display) using Intel HD Graphics 4000 with a i5-3472U
I have two monitors that support 1920x1080 and work fine with this resolution when using 2 displays. But as soon as I enable the built-in display as a 3rd extended monitor I lose resolution on my 2nd monitor and am unable to set it higher then 1440x900
Other users in my office who have the same equipment are able to get this working correctly, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I have tried reinstalling my display drivers but that didn't resolve the issue.
If there is any further suggestions or support you could offer I would appreciate it.
Thank you for your time

Hello, Shiunin:
I would like to know, what are the connections used to get the triple display?
I recommend you to check here the requirements and different checks to be performed to get a triple display set up.
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005580.html Multiple Displays Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for Graphics...
Also, with OEM devices the triple display settings and max resolution supported could change depending on the OEM settings in the unit.
Regards,
Esteban C

I use a docking station, with one monitor connected via VGA and one connected via DVI (and the laptop open on the dock) And the display with the limited resolution is connected via VGA.
I will review this guide, thank you, hopefully it's just a matter of cabling!

Thank you for your help. There was a link in the document that you provided that seems to have a very disappointing answer. It seems that 3rd generation intel core processors simply can not handle this display setting.

Hello, Shiunin:
The 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors with Intel® HD Graphics 4000/2500 would support 3-displays configurations; however, there is a requirement for this to work.
To get 3-display configuration you would need these connections available: HDMI* or DVI or VGA or DisplayPort or Built-in Display.
I would like you to check the link below and look for the following:
1. Which Intel graphics and chipsets support three independent displays?
2. Which operating systems support three display configuration?
3. View information for the Intel® HD Graphics 4000/2500 of 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors, Intel HD Graphics of Intel® Pentium® Processors 2000/G2000/G2100 series, and Intel® HD Graphics of Intel® Celeron® Processors 1000/G1000 series
4. View a comprehensive table of supported configurations and notes.
Also, there is a note, to check if your device has an embedded DisplayPort (eDP) or LVDS connector.
If this is not the information you found, may I have that website mentioned in your answer?
I look forward to your reply.
Regards,
Esteban C

Hello Esteban,
Thanks for your time with this.
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005556.html Configuration 3 Displays FAQ for Graphics Drivers - Here is the page I found that I believe explains the issue:
Why is 1920 x 1200 resolution not shown in a 3-display configuration on the second and third monitors on 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors, Intel® Pentium® Processors 2000/G2000/G2100 series, and Intel® Celeron® Processors 1000/G1000 series?
These 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors limit the pixel data throughput to 180 MHz for second and third DisplayPort devices. This can limit the second and third DisplayPort devices from displaying 1920x1200 since 180 MHz or more is needed for this configuration.
This seems to describe my issue. We can get 3 displays working, but 1 display can not go up to it's usual 1920x1200 setting. I think I may be out of luck.

Hello Shinunin, do you use a ThinkPad mini doc plus to connect your monitors or directly on your x230?
Thank you.
