A Way Out game crashing on A770 LE

Hello,

Yesterday I installed "A Way Out" game trough Steam, at the end of the installing downloaded and installed EA application and asked for restart but since there were some other downloads waiting to finish, I choose restart later and restarted the PC after some time. Game crashes after 10 seconds loading the man menu. Everything was on default settings, nothing changed there.

The driver version is 31.0.101.4953 installed with DDU. All other games like COD MW2, Starcraft2, Civilization VI, older games like Half-Life are running without issues. No other GPU was present in the system, only ARC A770.

I tried starting EA application as Admin, reinstall the game...its the same. Rebar is enabled in BIOS, system is up-to-date, everything is on default in Arc Control Panel, no overclocking or changed settings.

Sometimes the game is not even starting, sometimes it is crashing on the first menu. I ran Intel PresentMon and noticed that immediately after the launch of the game, the GPU Power immediately hits the limit power which is 190W.

I can upload .dmp file from the Windows Error Reporting in the Event Viewer if that helps.

Thanks for your help, really appreciated.

Hello IShoINisho,

Thank you for posting in the Intel Communities. We can see that you have a crashing issue when trying to play A Way Out, and we would be more than glad to help you.

We would like to ask for more details about your issue to better assist you.

  • Is there any error message when the game crashes? If so, provide us with an screenshot of the error message.
  • Please update the .dmp file from the Windows Error Reporting in the Event Viewer. Note that the more information we have, the better.
  • We also would like to ask for more details about your system. Please provide us with a system report using the Intel System Support Utility (Intel SSU):
    • Open the application and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel SSU will take you to the "Summary View."
    • Click on the menu where it says: "Summary" to change it to "Detailed View."
    • To save your scan: click "Next"; then "Save."

Finally, you mentioned to have the driver 31.0.101.4953. However, there is a new driver version available, we recommend you install the new driver 31.0.101.4972. You should run the DDU to eliminate all the driver files and leftovers from the previous drives to freshly install the new version.

Hello,

Sorry for the late reply.

I have tried latest driver, didn't fixed the issue.

But after some searching, I have found out that this is old bug in EA Launcher/Unreal Engine and workaround provided by Intel about 4 years ago:

OpenSSL* SHA Crash Bug Requires Application Update (intel.com)

After applying this short-term workaround, everything is fine.

I'm not really sure if this short-term workaround is safe and I wouldn't want adding system variables in my system so can you please let me know if there is permanent solution for this old bug?

Thanks,

Milan.

Hello IShoINisho,

Thank you for getting back to us. We noticed that you have the workaround provided in the article about an issue in Unreal Engine applications, and everything is working well after implementing it. We would like to investigate it further on our end. We will keep you informed and let you know if we come up with a solution to the crash bug that was reported in the article.

Hello IShoINisho,

Thank you for your patience. We would like to let you know that since the issue is addressed with the workaround from the game side, the best course of action is to report this problem to the game developer. If you need additional information, submit a new question, as this thread will no longer be monitored.

Best regards,
