Arc b580 not showing temp/clock also isn't detected in LACT

Despite being on Ubuntu 25.05, which has support for Arc; and installing the official drivers (here’s the link: https://dgpu-docs.intel.com), my card shows up as unknown; there are no thermal readings or clock speed data; however, it does know the model name—it says Arc B580 LE—so I’m not sure if it’s partially detecting it.

Also, in a system monitoring app called Mission Centre, there is no reading on power draw; VRAM is listed, and so is the name, but it’s called G21, which to my knowledge is the B580. These apps can be found on snap and flathub

If I can edit this later, I will upload images; as of writing this, I am on my phone.

Hi Doddsey,

Thank you for reaching out to the Intel Community Forum. To assist us in investigating the issue, please provide the following details:

  • When did the issue start?
  • Is this working fine before?
  • What are the troubleshooting steps that you tried so far?

Additionally, have you tried Installing the Intel Graphics Card firmware as directed from the Installing Client GPUs — Intel® software for general purpose GPU capabilities documentation under step 1, 2, and 3 enabled the Blender to correctly detect the graphics card.

If you have any questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Best regards,

I was on Windows before switching to Ubuntu. When I downloaded both apps which i have listed in the original post, I noticed the issue — I had followed all the steps in the linked guide before installing the apps.

I’ve now switched to Fedora 42, and the system is detecting the card and showing temperatures and VRAM usage. However, it doesn’t detect fan speed, and the card seems to be limited to 100W. I believe the TBP of the Arc B580 is around 195W, so this is quite a severe limit. I can notice this in games — for example, in THE FINALS on Windows 10/11, I averaged 120+ FPS with XeSS on Ultra Quality and medium settings. On Linux (both Fedora and Ubuntu), performance is significantly lower at around 80+ FPS on average with the same settings. This might not be entirely due to the power draw — it could simply be OS differences — but I suspect it’s related. On Windows, the card was drawing about 110W; I don’t know the exact number on Linux, but based on the power limit, it might be around 80W. The same goes for Euro Truck Sim 2 250+fps on windows ultra settings. On linux 60-80fps ultra settings. Thats a huge performance hit this must be related to the power limit. On windows it was drawing 130w. This cannot be due to the OS differences ETS2 is officially supported on linux as well!!

However this is an entirely separate issue from the one I was having before. The issue i was having has been partially solved all the sensors are working minus the fan tachometer. I've gone on a bit of a rant so here's answers to the questions you asked

When did the issue start?
As soon as I switched from Windows to Ubuntu. LACT wasn’t detecting the card at all on Ubuntu. Even with the repo

Was this working fine before?
Yes. On Windows, GPU monitoring software could fully detect the card, including fan speed, temperatures, VRAM usage, and power draw.

What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

Followed all steps from the linked Intel GPU setup guide before installing LACT.

Tested both Ubuntu and Fedora 42.

Verified GPU detection via lspci and neofetch (card shows correctly).

Compared performance and sensor readings between Windows and Linux.

Checked firmware updates and kernel driver usage.

Since switching to Fedora 42, LACT now detects the card and shows temps/VRAM usage, so the original issue is partially resolved. The only remaining LACT-related problem is that the fan tachometer reading is missing.

I’ve also noticed a separate performance/power limitation issue on Linux, but I understand this is not directly related to LACT detection.

Below is a screen shot after playing the finals. The power draw is lower than it was on windows

Hi Doddsey,

Thank you for the feedback. I will now further investigate this and will get back to you once a resolution is available.

Additionally,. please provide your power supply's make and model. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I have a MSI MAG A650BN. This should be well over the amount my whole system draws. I don't suspect that the power supply is the issue. Anyway thanks for investigating further. The wattage for my PSU is 650w

Hi Doddsey,

Thank you for the feedback. Just to clarify, you are experiencing two issues:

  1. The Intel Arc B580 is not being properly recognized by Ubuntu's default application.
  2. Low performance while playing the game "The Finals."

I recognize that the primary concern is to troubleshoot the GPU's performance in "The Finals." However, due to system limitations, I can only address one issue per thread. Could you please let me know which issue you would like us to focus on in this thread?

  • If you choose to address the game performance issue, please provide the game settings and steps to recreate the issue, including the application used for testing. This will help us investigate further.
  • If you prefer to focus on the recognition issue with Ubuntu, we will update the graphics escalation checklist and escalate the case to Level 2 for guidance.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Yes performance is the biggest factor here. I would like to focus on that as that is the only downside of being on Linux. I can live without a few sensors working but not worse performance than windows
Thanks Doddsey
