Any version of the driver after 31.0.101.5382 hangs when loading the screen when a computer player wants to talk to you. It does not happen every time an opponent is loaded, but once it happens it is repeatable. A reload of the autosaved game will hang when contacted by the same opponent.
The error is "FGXRenderer11::Present failed hr=CXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED. Driver Failure" It pops up and the game is still running. You can hear the ambient sounds, but cannot interact with the game. It has to be killed with task manager.
Reproduced with 31.0.101.5534
Rolling back to 31.0.101.5382 solves the problem.

Attempted again with 32.0.101.5762. The same problem still occurs. The regression has not been fixed.

Experiencing Civilization V hanging during opponent animations can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to try and resolve this issue:
1. Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure your graphics drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can cause compatibility issues with games.
2. Lower Graphics Settings Try reducing the graphics settings within the game. This can lessen the strain on your system, potentially preventing hangs during animations.
3. Disable Mods: If you are using mods, try disabling them temporarily. Sometimes mods can conflict with the game's processes and cause instability.
4. Verify Game Files Steam (assuming you're using it) allows you to verify the integrity of game files. Right-click on Civilization V in your Steam library, go to Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files.
5. Check System Requirements: Ensure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for Civilization V. Insufficient hardware can lead to performance issues.
6. Close Background Applications: Make sure no other applications are running in the background that could be consuming CPU or memory resources.
7. Temperature and Overheating: Check that your computer is not overheating. Use monitoring software to ensure that temperatures are within safe limits.
8. Reinstall Civilization V As a last resort, consider reinstalling the game. This can sometimes fix persistent issues caused by corrupted files.
9. Update Game Ensure Civilization V is updated to the latest version. Developers often release patches that address performance issues.
10. System Maintenance: Perform regular system maintenance such as disk cleanup and defragmentation to ensure optimal performance.
If the issue persists after trying these steps, it could indicate a more complex underlying problem such as hardware failure or a deeper software conflict. In such cases, you may need to seek further technical assistance, potentially from the game's support team or a computer technician.
