Crashes with Train World Simulator 3. Using a770

Hey,

I'm trying to play Trian World Simulator 3, but it keeps crashing.  I'm using an Intel a770 and Dovetail says that it seems to be an issue with the graphics driver, and I should contact Intel.  I'm using driver 31.0,101.4314 (and have tried the beta driver).  The game generally crashes when it gets to a certain point, and I can pretty much count on it to do that whenever I play eventually.

The game glitches, and it is frozen to where I need to restart the PC, even control alt delete doesn't work.  There are no errors or anything.

Sorry, I really don't understand it! No word from Intel about this problem since end of August.

Today I read about a new driver 31.0.101.5074, and the Release Notes say:

  • Train Sim World 3* (DX11)
    • Up to 34% average FPS uplift at 1080p with Ultra settings

No word about fixing crashes, but who knows, so I downloaded the driver and ..... still the same problem, still crashing at the same point, still the same error message.

So, no word about the crashes, even if several people ask about it, and then Intel promotes the FPS uplift in the realase notes of a new driver.

I feel kind of being mocked and I really don't understand why Intel choses to act this way. I was more than willing to help and test and give feedback. I reported this problem on the 7th of April 2023. I think I have shown some patience, since I know troubleshooting is not easy. But this is really disappointing.

(2. attempt)

I really don't quite understand Intel. No news about this topic in two months, despite several people asking for an update.

And then I read today about a new driver version 31.0.101.5074, and the release notes say:

  • Train Sim World 3* (DX11)
    • Up to 34% average FPS uplift at 1080p with Ultra settings

Ok, no mention of a fix for crashes, but one can always hope. So I downloaded the driver (usual cleaning up first, then clean installation) and .... nothing changed. Still the same crash at the same position with the same error message like before.

So, why does Intel do that this way? No communication here and then a performance improvement, that doesn't bring much, if the game still crashes.

I think I have been patient. I reported this problem 7th of April 2023, and was more than willing to provide data, test new drivers and give feedback. In the beginning there was communication as well, but then nothing anymore and now this. I feel a bit like being mocked. The big performance improvement gets promoted and articles are written about the new driver that improves games up to 34%! No mention of that Train Sim World 3 (and 4) crashes with Intel Arc on more than just one occasion in this game.

I feel really disappointed.

So mine actually is working!  I installed the driver then ran a level that had previously crashed when loaded, and it's running well.  Which level are you having problems with?  Previously I was trying to run LIRR levels (which are technically from TSW 1 I think), and it's working well for me now.

@FurnaceRocker: I have been testing the following track, which also Intel seemed to have used for reproducing the problem:

***snip***
However, I got the error also on the track "Kassel - Würzburg" while it loads the scenario.

From the main menu
-> "To the trains (your collection)"
-> "Rail Journeys (Guided Experience)"
-> "Schnellfahrstrecke: Kassel - Würzburg"
-> "King of the Kassel"
-> "Making TRAXX"
-> "50244 Ludwigshafen - Hamburg Billwerder
-> Get Started -> Loading -> Crash
***snip***
(from thread https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-ARC-Graphics/Crashes-with-Arc-A380-or-A750-with-Unreal-Engine-4-game-quot/m-p/1501716)

Since I always not only do a cleanup with DDU and clean installation of the new graphics driver, but also reinstall TSW (and btw, I did the last test with TSW4, not TSW3, maybe that was a mistake, even if TSW4 is still based on the same UE version), and I don't want to download *all* the tracks I own, since that would be downloading more than 100GB every time, and also because I didn't see/get an info that Intel actually fixed something about those crashes (if so, i would have done further/enhanced testing), I only used this track for quickly seeing if something has changed.

If something has changed for you, I am happy for you. Maybe Intel has also done work on the issue. But  I don't understand why there has been no communication about it.

I don't want to be unjust, like written before I understand that troubleshooting takes time and is not always as straightforward as one wishes. But the lack of communication in the past two months is irritating.

But if I am the only one, who is still having problems with the game, then it's fine for me too, since I can use a different cards, with which I have no problems. I only kept my A380 so I would still be able to do testing and provide feedback. But by now my willingness to do those tests has gotten less.

Ok, I don't have that level unlocked right now, so I can't do an easy test.  I did notice that I am still getting some crashes, it seems like it's around either the Boston levels, or the amtrack train.  So maybe they are aware that all the crashes aren't ironed out yet.  I do agree the communication has been very poor.  I sent in a post earlier and still haven't gotten a reply from intel on it.

@FurnaceRocker : If you own Kassel - Wuerzburg (it was included in the Standard TSW3), you should be able to select that track directly without needing to unlock anything first. I just tried with creating a new profile first. It is the third (and last) track of the first chapter. But it also crashed on "Cajon Pass", while loading, also the third track off the first chapter, which should also be available without unlocking:

(From community.intel.com/t5/Intel-ARC-Graphics/Crashes-with-Arc-A380-or-A750-with-Unreal-Engine-4-game-quot/m-p/1508553#M6290)

"Or, if you prefer to play in the USA setting, you can also try out "Cajon Pass".

-> To The Trains
-> Rail Journeys
-> Cajon Pass
-> Passing Grade
-> Rookie (First chapter)

This chapter also contains three scenarios. Again, the first two at least load without crash ("ES44C2 Training Module" and "Long Train and Brakes Introduction"), the third one "Z-ELPSDG6-05 Intermodal El Paso to San Diego" crashes while loading with the same error as in the description."

Maybe you can try that and see if it still crashes or not? Do you have anything I should try out, where you found that it crashed before, but not now anymore? I will try to test it later in the day then.

One more thing: the communication hasn't been bad the whole time. When I reported the issue first and also here in your thread, we got plenty of resonses from Intel Jose, Hugo, ... But then it suddenly stopped, and that is one thing that I don't understand either.

But I still hope that to change at some point.

Hello FurnaceRocker and ArcGNU,

I sincerely apologize for the delay in communication and appreciate your patience. It's our pleasure to inform you that, according to the latest findings from our team, the issue you've been experiencing should be resolved with the new graphics driver update, version 31.0.101.5382. I kindly ask you to proceed with updating your graphics driver to this latest version and share your results with us.

Furthermore, It's important to ensure a clean installation when updating to the latest graphics driver. I recommend using the DDU to remove previous versions before installing the new driver. This process helps prevent any potential conflicts that could arise from residual files. For guidance on how to use DDU, please refer to our How to Use the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to Uninstall an Intel® Graphics Driver article.

Your feedback is valuable, and I'll be awaiting your response. Please be assured that our commitment to providing thorough and careful assistance is the reason for the time taken to respond. We are dedicated to ensuring that all aspects of the case are meticulously examined.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,
