Firmware to Enable Support VVC (H.266) on Intel ARC Alchemist

I will go straight to the point; will Intel release a firmware to enable support for VVC (H.266) hardware encode and decode on Intel ARC Alchemist?

I ask this because it was previously alluded to on some interviews by intel back when intel was gearing up to release alchemist.

According to what I remember the hardware in intel arc alchemist media engine is reprogrammable! to accommodate new type of workload / instruction sets.

Hi ht007,

I received the update from the team and I would like you to know that Intel® Arc A-Series GPUs does not support VVC (H.266) codec as it does not have the hardware to support it, thus no firmware update will enable this.

For reference, please check this: intel/media-driver: Intel Graphics Media Driver to support hardware decode, encode and video processing - under "Decoding/Encoding Features".

I hope this addresses your concern.
