Forza Motorsport 8 Shader Cache Not Saving & Random Crashes

This game was working two days ago.  There have been no changes to the computer except for a graphics card update and I've tried everything from administrator rights to clearing the cache to uninstalling and reinstalling the game.  Latest graphic driver is 32.0.101.6972 and I'm running the game through steam.  The graphics card is an A750 Limited Edition.

Computer Specs are ... AMD Ryzen 5 5600, 32Gb RAM (and I ran a test on RAM to make sure it was good), WD 770 1tb M.2 SSD, ASUS Prime B550M-A Wifi II motherboard.

Hi @NathanLoiselle,

Thank you for posting here in our community. To effectively diagnose and address the issue you're experiencing, I kindly ask you to provide detailed responses to the following questions. This information will help us isolate the problem and determine the most appropriate course of action.

  • Please provide the SSU log report and share it here so I can review your system's configuration.
  • What exactly happens when you try to launch the game now? (e.g., crash, black screen, error message?)
  • Does the game reach the main menu or fail before that?
  • Have you tried rolling back to the previous driver version to see if the issue resolves?
  • Have you tried lowering the graphics settings?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
  • Is your motherboard BIOS up to date?
  • Are other games running fine with the new driver?
  • Have you checked for any crash dumps ? Kindly follow the steps outlined in the guide to help us collect crash dump files for analysis .Please scroll down to the "Crashing/freezing issues/BSOD" section for detailed instructions.

I look forward to your response and am committed to resolving your issue promptly.

Warm regards,

I've rolled back both graphics and os updates to when the game last worked.  Nothing was solved.  So I re-updated both.  I uninstalled the game and steam to no avail.  Reduced graphics levels, ran the internal troubleshooter for windows, deleted all shader caches, and removed any software that could be impeding the game.  It was crashing the computer at random intervals both before and after the main menu and I even successfully ran a race before crash once.  Now the program won't start at all but it doesn't crash the computer anymore.  It just goes to the desktop with no error message.

Since I didn't find any complaints on the Forza boards about crashing with intel systems I concluded it was the video card.  Note that I was unable to resize the shader cache like you can with AMD and Nvidia cards which seems to have fixed the problem when it previously occurred for others in 2023.

The bios/uefi is up to date for the motherboard and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (which also uses shader cache) runs perfectly.  I'm not comfortable playing with the registry so am not able to get any dump files for you.

I did get a intel update through windows that I didn't recognize 32.0.101.5542.  Windows insisted that I download it despite having a newer graphics card driver installed.  After installing that update I checked the graphics control panel and it says that the driver is 32.0.101.6972 still.  The windows/intel update installed when the computer was re-updated to the latest windows version.

Your promptness is greatly appreciated.

Hi @NathanLoiselle,

Thank you for your response. I completely understand that you're not comfortable making changes through the registry no worries at all.

Let me check on my end to see if we have any alternative options, as crash dump files are essential for further analysis. I also noticed that your BIOS is already updated to version 3621, which is great.

In the meantime, I recommend performing a clean installation of the graphics driver using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller). After that, please reinstall the latest driver and test the game again.

If possible, could you also share a screen recording showing how the issue occurs? This would help me observe the behavior and potentially replicate it on my end.

I've attached a guide below to help you with the DDU process.

How to Use the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to Uninstall an...

I tried the DDU method and it's now crashing randomly within a few minutes of starting.  As for the screen recording ... can you recommend a program?  I've tried the one that steam provides but it won't let me export the video so that I can send it to you.

Hi @NathanLoiselle,

To help us further diagnose the issue, could you please provide an updated SSU log report? This will give us better insight into your system’s current configuration after the DDU and driver update.

Regarding the screen recording, you may save or export the video to your Google Drive and share the link with me. If you're not comfortable posting it here, please let me know, and I’ll be happy to send you a private message instead.
