Intel B580 | Vram/power/frame issues with DX11 titles (DayZ, GTAV Legacy)

I am having an issue with playability with DayZ and GTAV Legacy. The problem is as follows:

When starting up the game, everything will be fine. GPU will be at 100% usage, and starts anywhere around 4-5k VRAM usage, and around 130W power consumption. after about 10 minutes of playing, I will notice that VRAM usage will be around 11GB of usage (12GB total). This is where i start to notice issues such as slight wattage and frame drops, and as a side effect, GPU temps start to drop a little.

A few minutes after this, the card will start to allocate VRAM over the cards max, and will keep climbing. During this, the following issues are as follows:

GPU Wattage drops from 130 (+\- 5), down to 70-90

GPU Temperature drops from 60, down to 40-50 (not exactly an issue)

GPU VRAM usage will pin at 11.7-11.9GB of the 12GB total, and start to use shared memory ending up at a total usage of over 15GB

At this point, the game drops down to 10-30 FPS. The games will start at well over 100 FPS. If I Leave it long enough, it will eventually hit 1 FPS.

My system specs are as follows:

  •      CPU: Ryzen 7600
  •      RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo @6000MHz CL30
  •      MOBO: Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX (Rev 1.0)
  •      SSD: MSI M480 Pro M.2
  •      GPU: Intel Arc B580 SE
  •      PSU: MSI A850GL
  •      OS: Windows 11 Pro x64

I have checked that the following is true:

  •      Resizeable BAR is enabled
  •      PCIEX16 is running Gen 4
  •      Driver is up-to-date (32.0.101.6647)
  •      Power plan is set to high performance
  •      UEFI boot mode is active
  •      8-Pin cable is properly seated
  •      GPU properly seated in PCIEX16 slot
  •      DDU was used in safe mode to remove all nvidia drivers
  •      Fresh install of Windows was performed.

Games that run DX12 such as World of Tanks, War Thunder, Delta Force, Arena Breakout all run fine.

any additional info needed I am willing to provide

Thank you.

Hello iTSgENESIX,

Thank you for providing detailed information about your issue. I have a few clarifications and questions to help us better understand the situation. Could you please assist by answering the following:

  1. Have you tried using an older graphics driver for testing purposes?
  2. Which platform did you download GTA and Day Z from (e.g., Steam, Epic Games, etc.)?
  3. If possible, could you share a video demonstrating the GPU wattage and FPS drops?
  4. Does the power wattage also drop when you're playing with DX12 or other APIs?

Best regards,

Hello

Drivers used were as follows:

     1: 6647 (Current)

     2: 6651 (Win 10 - was an accident)

     3: 6632 (Previous)

Steam is the platform used

The only games i notice this in is DayZ and GTA V Legacy. both of which run off of DX11. All the games I play with DX12 run perfectly with no issues.

For the recording, I have recorded 1H 27M. It took longer as i was playing on a mostly vanilla server with low pop. I have edited it to be a shorter video showing changes. Driver used is 6632. here is the link: https://youtu.be/hRZbPP-63os

Timestamps as follows:

0:00: Load in.

8:34: VRAM exceeding maximum value, reaching into shared memory

13:52: Primary issue starts to show. VRAM climbing, Power dropping, Frames dropping.

Hello iTSgENESIX,

I've reviewed the YouTube video you shared in this thread. I have a few clarifications regarding VRAM usage. It seems I can't determine whether the VRAM usage is being exceeded, as there is no visible value indicating this. Could you confirm how you observed this phenomenon?

I did notice that early in the video, around the last timestamp, there are drops in power and FPS. At the 8-minute mark, the power and FPS seem to decrease whenever you're in areas with dense foliage, such as trees, bushes, and plants. However, when I rewind to the earlier timestamp at 7 minutes, everything appears to operate normally. During gameplay, the power drops, and the FPS follows up.

This situation is quite intriguing, and I would like to investigate further. But first, please let me know how you determined that the VRAM is being fully utilized and relying on shared memory.

Yes. At the beginning, everything tends to be fine. This issue will persist even if i go to a spot that has next to nothing, once this issue has started

As for the VRAM, the specific card is intels special edition card which holds 12GB of vram. Both RivaTuner (ingame tracker shown in video), and task manager’s performance show this.

Before i closed out of the game, i was sitting at 11.9GB Vram usage (max) with 3gb shared usage. Once i closed out, both dropped showing that there isnt anything i have running that is using shared ram or requiring vram usage

Hello iTSgENESIX,

Could you please share a separate video or screenshot of this issue? Additionally, could you provide your in-game graphics and display settings for DayZ?

attached are screenshots of before playing, during playing when encountering this issue, and graphics options.

For graphics, it does not matter what settings i use. max, low, mixed up, mid, etc, it all happens.

Hello iTSgENESIX,

Thank you for your patience. I conducted a 15-minute replication test at 1440p with High Quality presets on an Arc A580 Core i5-14400 using driver 101.6651. During this test, I did not observe any significant FPS or voltage drops while playing.

The average FPS for this configuration in Day-Z was 88, and it never dropped below 60. Please refer to the attached CapframeX file for detailed analysis. I recommend reinstalling the game and testing with driver version 32.0.101.6653. Be sure to select "Customize Installation" and check the "Clean Installation" box. If the issue persists, consider swapping the GPU or testing it in a different system to rule out any hardware problems.

Additionally, please note that for GTA 5, the preferred API is now DX12. Intel is actively optimizing performance following the recent game update, and improvements are ongoing.

hello

was this 15 minutes of total gameplay?

I installed 6653, and it lasted a little longer before i got frame drops. roughly 50 minutes on a modded server.

Previously, it would have been 1.5 hours on a vanilla server, and 10-15 mins on modded.

The video i provided was 1.5 hours duration sped up to a roughly 20 min video.

Also, Previously i had a RTX 4070. I had no issues with any game with my PC. The games have been reinstalled twice, and I have done a complete reinstall of windows. The issue persisted through that.

unsure if it matters, but this is a b580, not an a580

Additionally, I am using an AMD system. Is there a chance of confliction?

Hello iTSgENESIX,

I apologize for the confusion in my previous response; it should have referred to the B580. Rest assured, the game was tested on the B580, not the A580, as I mistakenly typed. Regarding the gameplay, it was indeed 15 minutes. However, I wanted to ask if you've tried using the B580 in a different system for testing. I understand your reply, but before proceeding further, I want to rule out any potential issues with the GPU itself.

Additionally, using an AMD system shouldn't pose any conflicts with the system requirements, as your setup meets the necessary configuration for the B580 Arc GPU.

hello

Unfortunately I do not have access to another PC to test the card with. I know the rest of my system is fine as it all worked as should with the 4070.

If there is an issue with the card, wouldn't it have issues playing everything?

thank you
