This started roughly a month ago. Everything was fine, Fortnite ran smoothly and I was enjoying my B580. Then, I downloaded the latest update in Fortnite and ever since then, I had the issue where my game would lag every 1.5 seconds (approximately) without an exception. Every. 1.5. Seconds. I tried everything, I reinstalled the game, I reinstalled my graphics drivers, I updated the motherboard bios, I did a reinstall of Windows 10; non of those worked. I eventually gave the pc to my brother who is a professional IT technician. He moved me to Windows 11. Fresh install, no data saved other than the backed up files. Fresh install of Fortnite. Everything was dandy, for a time. I loved that I could finally play the game with relatively good framerate and high graphics. Of course, an update rolls around for the game and I naturally download it to play the game. Of course, like a cat when you shake the food container, the issue came back. I now once again have lag every ~1.5 seconds and there is seemingly nothing I can do to stop it. I have lost hope at this point and am wondering if there is a fix for this or if I should just move back to my 1660 Super for the time being.

Hi EzraEpic,
Thank you for posting in our Community. Based on your description, the consistent hitching every 1.5 seconds could potentially be caused by background polling, driver conflicts, or an in-game setting interacting poorly with your hardware or software environment, particularly post-update. To help us narrow down the root cause and provide a more targeted solution, I’d like to ask a few quick follow-up questions:
- Which Intel GPU model are you currently using? You mentioned a B580, just confirming if you’re referring to the Intel® Arc™ A580 or another model(possibly an OEM)?
- Which version of the Intel Graphics Driver are you currently running? Was the issue happens before?
- Is the in-game 'Ray Tracing' or 'Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling' enabled? These have been known to impact performance in some titles post-update.
- Is Resizable BAR (ReBAR) enabled in your BIOS settings? Intel Arc GPUs rely heavily on ReBAR for optimal performance.
- Are you seeing any unusual spikes in CPU/GPU usage, or high disk/IO activity when the stuttering occurs?
- Are you running Fortnite in DirectX 11, 12, or Performance Mode? Switching between them can drastically affect stability on some configurations.
- Have you tried playing with an older version of the game (if available) or with overlays like Discord/Game Bar completely disabled?
- Could you please provide CapFrameX data for this game? This will allow me to analyze performance metrics in more detail and identify any potential issues. Ideally, please share a CapFrameX file that includes at least 2-5 minutes of gameplay
Additionally, I'd like to delve deeper and verify specifics like the graphics models, precise driver versions, and any system errors. Utilizing the Intel SSU tool will enable me to collect detailed information about your system setup, which could aid in identifying the underlying cause of this issue.
Let us know once you've had a chance to try any of these or provide the answers above, and we’ll continue investigating with you. We want to make sure you're back to smooth gaming as soon as possible.
Have a nice day!
Best regards,
Von M.

Dear Von M.,
I appreciate you asking questions to help my problem. I will provide you with answers below.
1. I can confirm the graphics card I am using is the Battlemage architecture B580. I have linked an image to confirm this. My particular card is a model from Intel themselves, not a board partner.
2. I am currently on version 32.0.101.6972, however, I believe this issue may have also occurred on the previous version. However, I do not trust myself to be sure on that last piece of information, so for the sake of clarity, I will claim that the issue I described did not happen on a prior version of the drivers.
3. I do not have Ray Tracing enabled in Fortnite. As for Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling, I do not believe nor could I find an option in Fortnite's settings so I do not know whether this is on by default or not.
4. ReBar is enabled on my computer.
5. I am not experiencing high spikes in usage in any of the listed areas you mentioned.
6. I am running Fortnite on DX12. Running the game on DX11 does not work. Other users have had the issue of Fortnite not functioning with DX11 as EpicAntiCheat claims that "GLOBALROOT" is a problematic file when it is not. This has been explained to me as the Intel graphics cards not supporting DX11, however, I do not know if this is true. Performance mode has no significant change on my periodic lag problem compared to DX12. The only difference is lower graphics which does not fix the periodic lag problem.
7. It is not possible to run older versions of Fortnite. I have tried running Fortnite without Discord, however, this has not made an improvement. As of 7/29/2025, Microsoft has disabled the option to turn off Xbox Gamebar in Windows 11. I have tried uninstalling it before, however, as there is no indication of success, I do not know whether I successfully uninstalled it or not.
8. As I am not super advanced in how to use this software, I request that you inform me how to share you the information required from this software. I would also want some information on how to use SSU.

Hello, Von M.,
I am replying to you in the hopes that you are notified by my recent update on this matter. If you read my most recent reply to this thread, I detail that the issue has since reoccurred since the help provided by the Intel Customer Support team. I formally request that we reopen or create a new support ticket to keep on fighting this issue. One thing I believe you will be pleased to hear is that my installation of CapFrameX is working and is recording frame times in games and also indicates that the problem is very real.
I ask that you please reply back to me so that we can get this issue sorted out.
Thanks,
Ezra

Hello EzraEpic,
Thank you very much for your detailed and well-explained response. It’s great to hear you’ve confirmed that you're using the Intel® Arc™ B580 graphics card on driver version 32.0.101.6972, with Resizable BAR enabled, and that you've already ruled out usage spikes, DX11 limitations, and overlay conflicts. That helps narrow things down significantly.
In line with the CapFrameX data, this is a 3rd party tool for frame times capture and analysis based on Intel's PresentMon. The overlay is provided by Rivatuner Statistics Server (RTSS).
CapFrameX Installation instructions:
- Go to https://www.capframex.com/download and download the latest version of CapframeX.
- Go to https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/rtss-rivatuner-statistics-server-download.html and download the latest version of RTSS.
- Unzip both installers and install them.
- Launch CapFrameX and then close it. This is so it creates the user Configuration folder.
- Download and unzip the file OverlayEntryConfiguration_0.json (attached in this post) with the recommended RTSS configuration.
- Paste this file to %userprofile%\Documents\CapFrameX\Configuration.
- In the Capture tab, set the "Capture time" to 0. This is to remove the preset limit in capture time.
- In the Overlay tab, uncheck "Auto-Disable OSD" and click the save icon.
Capturing the Performance Data:
- Open CapframeX and do NOT minimize or close it.
- Open the game and go to the part of the game you need to be to reproduce the issue. You should see the RTSS overlay in the top left corner of your screen, with the status "<game name> ready to capture…".
- Press F11 to start capturing data and reproduce the issue. The Status in the overlay will change to "Recording frametimes XX s".
- Once you have reproduced the issue, press F11 to finish the data capturing. The Status in the overlay will change to "Processing data".
- Back to CapFrameX, you can find all the data captures in the left panel of the Analysis tab. Clicking any one of these captures will display the results on the right.
- To export the data captured as a JSON file, right-click the capture and click on "Copy/paste recording file(s)".
Please share a CapFrameX file that includes at least 2-5 minutes of gameplay
Have a nice day!
Best regards,
Von M.

Von M.,
I am sorry to report, however, even after following your instructions perfectly, there exists no file or folder named "Configuration" within C:\Users\Ezra\Documents\CapFrameX. I have followed your instructions without any fault and still do not have the required file to paste the OverlayEntryConfiguration_0.json file into.
I hope you have a solution to this.
Thanks,
Ezra

Hello to anyone who comes across this forum.
If you are here to find the solution to this very specific problem -- Fortnite lagging/hitching every ~1.5-2 seconds on DirectX12 with an Intel B580 -- I am here to provide the solution that worked for me.
I was struggling with this issue for nearly two months before I was able to find this solution. I went through much work and with the help of the Intel Customer Support team, was able to fix the problem with this solution.
This solution, as mentioned above, was provided directly from the Intel Customer Support team.
*
To help address this issue, we recommend performing the following steps using the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) tool:
- Download the latest version of the software.
- If you download the Installer, run it, it will create a shortcut on the desktop.
- If you download the Portable/ self-extracting version, look for the executable and extract it. Remember the path.
- Reboot into Windows* safe mode. (Refer to Start your PC in safe mode in Windows.)
- Look for the shortcut on the desktop (step 1.1) or the extract path chosen (step 1.2.1) and run the DDU executable.
- Click Close in the Options window.
- Select device type to GPU and select device to INTEL.
- Click Clean and restart or Clean and Shutdown depending on your needs.
- Wait for the software to finish the process and which will automatically reboot Windows to the typical mode or shutdown the system.
Once these steps are completed, please test your system again and let us know if you still experience frame rate drops. Your feedback will help us determine the next best course of action.
*
Following these exact steps leads will leave you with your computer in its regular state, however, more work has to be done after this. You will need to reinstall your Intel graphics drivers. This can be done by install the Intel Graphics Software that I have provided a link for below. From there, you need to reinstall your graphics drivers and reconfigure some of your settings such as display refresh rates and possibly wallpapers if you have two or more wallpapers with different wallpapers for each.
After following all these steps, I was able to successfully play Fortnite without any lagging or hitching. However, I will be watching my game client within the next few weeks to see if the problem reoccurs after any action. Until I determine that this solution appears to be permanent, I will not claim this solution to be perfect.
Down below, I have also linked a fellow Intel forums user who posted before me the exact same issue. This user by the name of RequeM posted on 07-24-2025, 12:59 PM a post titled "[Arc B580] [Fortnite DX12] FPS lag causing freezes every 2 seconds" where he describes this exact same problem.
With all of that, I hope this post help other users who are facing the exact problem.
Thanks,
Ezra

Hello, everyone.
I am making this reply because as of a few days ago when writing this reply, the previously accepted solution detailed in my previous reply to this thread has been deemed by me to no longer be a solution. Fortnite updated a few days ago and the issue has reoccurred since then. I might also add that I have updated my Intel Graphics Drivers for my B580 since then as there has also been an update driver. The issue might be worse than ever now and I am not sure what exactly to do now. Until I find an actual solution to this issue, I will keep this thread as "unsolved."
I plan to keep this thread updated with any notable information that I have to provide.
Thanks,
Ezra
