Minecraft 1.12.2 Crash, but even after closing system becomes highly unstable

Background: Im using a modpack for minecraft 1.12.2, after a period of highly random in nature (can happen hours after playing or just after getting on, same for system live time, it also can happen when I am in the same loaded world for exploring (generating new areas of the game) or staying in one central one).

What happens: At some point an incident can occur where the visual simply stops giving new frames. I have dual monitors so I can tell that its the application or at the very least its only one screen that freezes intermediately eventually both will freeze. If I let the application stay on it will cause a system crash, If I do an alt-f4 the application will close but the system remains unstable, it will have about a 5 second window where the screen will act normal then all screens will freeze, after another short (but longer than the first freeze) period where it freezes then unfreezes and finally goes blackscreen and does not return.

General Cycle: Application freezes -altf4 app-> System freezes (~10s) -> System unfreezes (app closes) (~5s) ->system freezes (~20s) -> System unfreezes (~5s) -> system goes black screen and does not recover.

Clarification: The application doesn't itself freeze only the visual output, as I can still hear the sound produced by it and changes that reflect the sound heard remain when the application is opened again. Between freezing and unfreezing the screen goes black but I am unsure if this is a monitor-effect from not receiving a frame.

Any thoughts on what I can do to minimize or fix this type of problem?

Hello Jcpkill

Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities. We would be more than glad to help you with your issue.

In order to better assist you, please provide us with the following:

  • Which game distribution service did you use to install the game? ( Blizzard, Epic, Origin, Steam, Xbox, Ubisoft connect)
  • Does the issue persist if you try the game's vanilla version (no mods)?
  • Is the issue present when running the latest game version?
  • Are you using Java or the Bedrock game version?
  • Create a system report using the Intel System Support Utility (Intel SSU)
    • Download the Intel SSU
    • Open the application and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel SSU will take you to the "Summary View."
    • Click on the menu where it says: "Summary" to change it to "Detailed View."
    • To save your scan: click "Next"; then "Save."

Microsoft? Mojang? one of those two

  • Does the issue persist if you try the game's vanilla version (no mods)?

I tried messing around in vanilla and it had no problems. Though given its sporadic nature I wouldn't say definitively no without playing on it for 24 hours.

  • Is the issue present when running the latest game version?

No, I have another modpack that uses a much newer version that does not cause the gpu to become unstable.

  • Are you using Java or the Bedrock game version?

Java

  • Create a system report using the Intel System Support Utility (Intel SSU)
    • See attachment

Hello Jcpkill,

Thank you for your response.

Checking your system report, the graphics driver installed in your system is version 31.0.101.4335. We have a newer driver for our Intel® Arc™ graphic, version 31.0.101.4369. It is always recommended to keep your system up to date to have the current fixes.

However, since you mentioned that the issue does not occur when using the game with no mods. We would recommend you further test this since the issue seems to be related to the Mod pack you are using. If the issue is caused by a game mod, we recommend you contact the developers for further support since implementing a fix for a mod may cause some functionality issues on the default game.

Also, it is important to mention that you should update your game version to the latest available since all of your fixes are focused on the game's latest versions.

Best regards,
