Performance is abnormal on Black ops 6

Hi there,

Recently bought an ASRock B580 Steel Legend OC 12GB graphics card due to my other cards from other brands going defect, so far I've experienced issues where the game is running fine on main menu but the moment I hit Multiplayer my fps drops steadily down to 30-51 and it's stuttering too much to the point where I press the WIN button my entire system starts lags and becomes sluggish. CPU Usage and GPU usage aren't above 50% either. I've set my PCIE Slot to GEN 4 and performance issues still occur, I've DDU'D 3 times now with no success. I've set my PCIE Slot to AUTO now and performance issue is still ongoing. I've not yet tested other games, however it seems BO6 is the one that is affected the most. Whether it's on the minimum graphics settings or Ultra it's still behaving abnormal.

I've tried Tekken and while it's mostly a smaller game compared to BO6, I've not yet noticed anything there. It's running stable 60 FPS on maximum settings with intel XeSS Ultra Quality.

My Specifications are:

CPU: Ryzen 9 7950X3D

GPU: ASRock B580 Steel Legend OC 12GB

MB: Gigabyte B650E Aorus Elite Ax Ice

PSU: Corsair RM1000X @1000W

RAM: 64GB G.Skill @6000MHz CL30

Hi TheMultiMen,

Thank you for posting in our Community and for sharing such detailed information about the issue as well as the troubleshooting steps you’ve already performed. Based on what you’ve described, Tekken seems to run smoothly, which suggests that the issue may be more specific to Black Ops 6. To help us narrow this down further, could you please clarify the following:

  • Which graphics driver version are you currently using, and did you download it directly from Intel or ASRock?
  • Do the FPS drops and stuttering occur only in multiplayer mode, or do you also notice them in campaign/zombies?
  • Have you had a chance to test other graphically intensive titles besides Tekken to see if similar issues occur?
  • What are your GPU and CPU temperatures when the FPS drops happen? This will help us rule out throttling.
  • Do you have any overlays running in the background (such as Discord, Xbox Game Bar, MSI Afterburner, etc.) that could affect performance?
  • When pressing the Windows (WIN) key and the system becomes sluggish, does it eventually recover or require a restart?

Have a nice day!

Hi there VonM!

After running a couple of games with Tekken again, the performance seems to be applicable there too!

I've also ran some tests on Older call of duty titles ranging from modern warfare 2 (the remake variants) and modern warfare 3.

Both games automatically put all settings to its lowest and screen to 1080p. Both games are affected in terms of the main menu where character is visible. During match play FPS is also sitting around 30-50s like Black ops 6.

Battlefield 2042 is also affected in this case, where the FPS is sitting around 30-45 in the main menu and when a match has found and gameplay begins the fps does go up to 50-60 and stays there, although I believe strongly this card can perform much much better than it is now. I suspect there's either a driver issue or conflicts between the card and my system.

Which graphics driver version are you currently using, and did you download it directly from Intel or ASRock?

I'm using driver 32.0.101.7026 (I've also tested your 7028 non-WHQL and experience the same problems there as I am on this one.)

Do the FPS drops and stuttering occur only in multiplayer mode, or do you also notice them in campaign/zombies?

I only have multiplayer enabled sadly, but to answer it in short: Yes, it affects other modes too. (I checked via Zombies on MW3.)

Have you had a chance to test other graphically intensive titles besides Tekken to see if similar issues occur?

Battlefield, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. I am still testing more games.

What are your GPU and CPU temperatures when the FPS drops happen? This will help us rule out throttling.

My GPU Temperatures is sitting around a steady 51-55 degrees and CPU is sitting around 56-60 degrees.

Do you have any overlays running in the background (such as Discord, Xbox Game Bar, MSI Afterburner, etc.) that could affect performance?

I have turned off overlays as I suspect they may ruin things, but so far issues persist.

When pressing the Windows (WIN) key and the system becomes sluggish, does it eventually recover or require a restart?

It sadly does not recover, it does not require a restart, however tabbing back into the game makes the system responsive once more. I've also noticed without doing any gaming the system can sometimes become sluggish (I've not been able to reproduce this, seems it is random).

The system becomes sluggish/slow no matter what game is turned on as if the graphics card is struggling to handle alt-tabbing or dual monitors. I've tested with single monitor and can confirm the issues are there as well. I've tried changing resolutions between 1080p to 1440p, plugged into a different DP port with no luck.

I also want to add during gameplay on these games with discord streaming turned on and set to 1440p 60fps (Nitro users only) the game will lag where it looks like the system thinks or the GPU thinks it too weak to run all this when we know it is not. 1080p60fps is also the same, 720p30fps/60fps seems to be okay though. I've tried with both hardware accelerated scheduling on and off: Issues persist.

To add more onto this, I do not know if it's normal or strange behaviour but:

On metrics in performance I can see the GPU Frequency sit around 3000-3116Mhz when I'm not doing anything.

As I'm writing this; scrolling up and down with my middle mouse seems to make the GPU respond and turn fans on as if it's a super intensive task. I'll add attachment of screenshot below as it shows the strange utilization on render.

VRAM Frequency seems to be stuck at 2375Mhz. Are these normal Idle behavior?

To end it, It seems like the card believes we're always running an intensive task so these 2 stay high no matter what. I know on my AMD card GPU Frequency would be low and not high unless we're playing or doing something intensive.

Would like to add onto this again with another game

It is better to open new conversations for other games. This allows for better tracking of the issues on a per-game basis. The reason(s) for frames being dropped can vary from one game to another and, without knowing, they shouldn't be tracked together.

Just saying,

..S

Hello TheMultiMen,

Thank you for sharing these details. To help us stay organized and ensure you receive the best support, I kindly request that you create a new community thread for issues related to your other games. This will allow us to focus on each issue or case individually and provide more accurate assistance. For now, let’s continue troubleshooting the FPS drops and stuttering you’re experiencing in Black Ops 6. Could you please provide CapFrameX data for this game? Having a capture of at least 2–5 minutes of gameplay will give me the performance metrics I need to analyze the issue in more detail and pinpoint any potential causes.
