Screen Flickering - Intel UHD Graphics

My laptop experiences occasional random screen flickering. This flickering screen definitely occurs when opening the Microsoft Edge homepage (background on the homepage) and occasionally occurs when displaying images (ex: background on the desktop or image-based content in the Microsoft Edge application) and also on the taskbar, for game applications such as "Joey the Passion" the display does not flickering. This problem occurs from the start of fresh Windows (10 and 11) after updating the latest drivers without installing additional applications.

This screen flickering does not occur when:
1. Bios mode.
2. Using the "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" driver.
3. Change to 40Hz mode using the latest "Intel UHD Graphics" driver.

Tried several versions of the intel graphics driver, but the problem still occurs. And also the display settings if using Intel UHD Graphics are only available for 6bit color, which is different from using the "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" driver which supports 8bit color.

abdghnyThank you for posting in the Intel® Communities Support.

We are sorry to hear about this issue and we will be more than glad to assist you with this matter.

In order for us to provide the most accurate assistance on this scenario, we just wanted to confirm a few details about your system:

Is this a new computer?

Was it working fine before without showing the flickering issue that you are describing?

Did you make any recent hardware/software changes that might cause this problem?

Does the problem happen at home or in the work environment?

Please attach the SSU report so we can verify further details about the components in your platform, check all the options in the report including the one that says "3rd party software logs":

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000057926/memory-and-storage.html

Any questions, please let me know.

Thank you for responding. Please check again, I have attached the SSU report including "3rd party software logs".

No, this laptop has been used for 14 months and functions normally.
There is no change in hardware replacement. I have tried using the latest Intel driver using Windows 10 or 11, the screen flashing still occurs.
This problem occurs anywhere, regardless of the environment.

Same thing happens to me. I'm on a Lenovo Legion 5i Pro 2022 and while I could use the OEM drivers or rollback to the last drivers (they both work correctly) updating to the latest driver causes the screen to constantly to blink/flicker black screen every 5-7 seconds or so.

It's driving me crazy.

abdghny, You are very welcome. Thank you very much for providing that information and the reports.

Based on the SSU document, and as you mentioned, the graphics driver version currently installed in your computer is 31.0.101.4953, which is provided by Intel®:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/785597/intel-arc-iris-xe-graphics-windows.html?wapkw=1115G4

In the following link :"How to Fix a Flickering Screen with Intel® Graphics" you will find troubleshooting steps to attempt in order to try to fix this problem. Some of them you already tried:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000026580/graphics.html

For this scenario, it is also important to mention that we always recommend to install the graphics driver provided by the manufacturer of the computer, since that driver was customized by them to work with your specific platform. I looked on Lenovo's website and the latest graphics driver version they have available is 31.0.101.4502. So, if the issue remains after trying the steps in the link above, even though you stated that you already tested different driver versions, please try a clean installation of that driver following the instructions in the links below:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/3-series/ideapad-3-14itl05/downloads/driver-list/component?name=Graphics%20Processing%20Units%20%28GPU%29%20and%20Server-AI%20Accelerators&id=635380F4-448F-4129-AA77-265289D96F6F

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000057389/graphics.html

Do you have the option to use different browsers like Chrome or Firefox to confirm if the behavior is the same?

Additionally, we recommend to get in contact directly with Lenovo Support as well, to make sure the latest BIOS version is currently installed on your machine or, if necessary, to gather the instructions on how to update it:

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en

Once you get the chance, please let us know the results.

Sorry I can't reply until now.
I have tried deleting all Intel drivers and installing version 31.0.101.4502 using a clean installation, but the screen flickering problem has not been resolved.

This still happens even when using other browsers such as Firefox and Chrome. This screen flickering even occurs when on the desktop (Wallpaper appears to flicker).

I have also installed the latest bios from Lenovo.
I think this is a software problem, because if I set 40Hz (using the Intel driver) this screen flashing doesn't happen and this screen flashing doesn't happen during bios mode.

Finally I have found the solution through this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=He1OuJQVNnU

set refresh rate to 59.89Hz (Automatic PC). Screen flickering immediately reduced drastically.

Thank you to the Admin who has responded. Maybe Admin can help by posting this method to other people who experience similar problems.
