Splitgate 2 - General poor performance on high refresh rate monitor (B580)

Hey Intel forums. I'm posting here to report an issue with general poor performance in Splitgate 2. Throughout my gameplay, I've had issues with frame drops, sudden stuttering, and occasional complete crashes of the game, graphics driver, and sometimes all of Windows.

This started happening only after I changed monitor setups. Initially I had 1 LG 75hz 1080p monitor over HDMI, but now I have another monitor, an MSI 1080p 180hz monitor connected over displayport.

While the issues do lessen at lower settings, things are still wrong and I can tell that this card is more than capable of running this game at very high settings at this framerate. Plus, the crashing is just crazy despite being rare. Here's a detailed summary of the issues:

- Framedrops and stuttering: The game occasionally freezes for a moment, causing catastrophic dips in 1% lows and annoyance during gameplay. Sometimes this stuttering looks like regular game lag in that it just drops to a very low framerate for a moment. Sometimes it looks like the game freezes and then unfreezes.

- Game crashes: Sometimes after stuttering and freezing severely, the game will just suddenly stop.

- Windows crashes: Very rarely while playing Splitgate 2, the graphics driver will crash so hard that it brings down all of Windows. This is usually accompanied by a "pop" from my speakers and both displays freezing up completely. All of my USB devices disconnect. The computer is unresponsive to anything other than a hard shutdown or basically just being unplugged. This happens so fast there is no time for Windows to BSOD or generate anything in the event viewer, it just suddenly crashes.

Splitgate 2 is a UE5 which I believe runs on Vulkan or DX12. Willing to look around or mess around as long as my system remains intact.
I am using driver 32.0.101.6913, which is not the latest I believe but it has been happening for several driver versions now.

System specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5 14400F (very very slightly degraded)
GPU: Onix Odyssey Intel Arc B580
Chipset: B760
RAM: 32GB DDR5-5800
Resizable BAR: Enabled

Hi iceches,

Thank you for reaching out to the Intel Community Forum. To assist us in investigating the issue, please provide the following details:

  • Does the issue occur only during cutscenes? Or does it also happen during regular gameplay or menus?
  • Have you tried using the LG monitor only? Is the issue still persisting with this monitor?
  • What are the troubleshooting steps that you tried so far?
  • Have you used DDU to completely remove all residual drivers and installed a new one?
  • Could you provide a screenshot of your in-game display and graphics settings?
  • Which gaming platform did you use to download the game?

I would also like to obtain 3 CapFrameX log to thoroughly analyze the FPS performance. Kindly ensure that the game would run for a minimum of 3 minutes each.

Additionally, to gain a comprehensive understanding of your system, please use the System Support Utility (SSU). This tool will generate a text file compiling all your system information. You can follow the instructions at this link and send the text file here. Help Guide for the Intel® System Support Utility.

If you have any questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Best regards,

Hey there. I'm not able to do all that at this time but I'll answer partially.

  • The issues only happen during gameplay.
  • I have tried using the LG monitor, and it works fine. Capping the MSI monitor to 60hz also works fine. Seems to only get unstable at very high refresh rates, at least 120hz.
  • So far I've looked through Event Viewer and tried editing my settings. I've also both added and removed overclocks. OCing seemed to make it even less reliable, and sometimes the game wouldn't even start.
  • I have not DDUed. This is my next step.
  • I'll grab a screenshot next time I'm in game, but I've tried presets from Low all the way to Ultra with very little change in stability, notably getting more stable at higher settings.
  • Steam.

Appreciate the help. Another bit of info, if it helps - I'm using the Onix Odyssey version of the Arc B580. Attached an SSU log below.

EDIT: What settings would you like me to obtain the frame capture data using?

Hi iceches,

Thank you for the feedback. Please perform first the DDU and reinstall the latest Intel® Arc™ & Iris® Xe Graphics and executing Clean Installation.

Please provide your game settings to I can try to replicate the issue if necessary.

I would also like to obtain 3 CapFrameX log to thoroughly analyze the FPS performance. Kindly ensure that the game would run for a minimum of 3 minutes each.

If you have any questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Here's the rest of that info. All frame captures were done after DDUing and reinstalling from scratch, which did seem to help. I'll post any further data if I get stuttering again, as it seems to come and go. In the meantime, let me know how I can help your investigation if you have anything further for me to look at.

EDIT - Graphical settings were auto-calibrated using the game's built in tool. I am also going to attach a capture log from earlier at all low settings, though it was done before DDUing. I have renamed it to a .txt file to bypass the filetype whitelist.

Hello. I believe I have solved this issue partially by disabling PL1 power limits and disabling ASPM. There are still occasional spikes in the 1% lows, but nothing abnormal or distracting anymore.

Hi iceches,

Thank you for the update and I'm glad that the issue has been resolved now. I also conducted tests using B580 system with graphics driver versions 32.0.101.6913 and 32.0.101.6972 (latest), paired with an i9-14900K, and did not experience any crashes or low FPS issues. Additionally, I tested with a third-party graphics card with updated drivers, and similarly, there were no crashes or low FPS.

The average FPS achieved with the Arc graphics card was 118 to 120 FPS, while the third-party graphics card averaged 119 to 120 FPS. Our setup included a monitor with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a refresh rate of 164.80 Hz, connected via DisplayPort.

Since the thread is now solved, we will proceed to close it. Please keep in mind that this thread will no longer be monitored by Intel. Thank you for your understanding.
