I had some issues updating from the 4900 driver to the 4952 driver. This is the first time I have encountered any issues updating an AC driver since the 3490 driver.
My current standard approach to updating ARC drivers is to completely remove the old driver via DDU and then install the new driver.
It took me three attempts to successfully update to the 4952 driver. The two issues I had with the 4952 driver update was:
- First go. I got a completely back screen near the end of the installation process, albeit I could see and move the mouse and the hard drive activity light was flickering. After around 5 mins I did a hard restart by cycling the power button. On reboot, I noticed ARC control did not load, but checking the driver version via Device Manager it showed it was the 4952 driver as expected. I removed the 4952 driver with DDU and started again.
- Second go. My screen froze at the last stage of updating the driver. The install dialogue box showed the driver installation was almost complete - then the display froze. After around 5 mins I cycled the power again and on reboot again ARC Control did not load, but Device Manager showed the driver version as being 4952 as expected. I removed the 4952 driver via DDU and started again.
- Third time. This time the screen froze again at the last stage of the driver install, but after I cycled the power button and rebooted, ARC Control loaded and all seemed OK.
As mentioned, I have never had any of the above issues with any previous driver updates since I started updating from the 3490 driver.
I noticed that there was information regarding having an HDMI connection for the installation. I don't use HDMI, I only use DisplayPort. Could it be the me not using an HDMI cable that caused my issues?
Could it have been caused by a firmware update that was taking a long time and I power cycled my PC before it had time to complete the firmware update and it took the three attempts to complete the firmware update?
As a request, it is possible to name the firmware version in the Release Notes that come with each driver update? I have noticed that there is now a default text that says that firmware updates come bundled with the driver update, but I am guessing that not every driver update also includes a firmware update?

Hello BigNish7,
Thank you for posting on the Intel
Related to the firmware version in the release notes suggestion, I recommend you open a new thread to keep this one organized, help you in the best way, and submit the feedback to the corresponding team.
To have a better understanding of the situation, please answer the following questions:
- Were you installing the driver manually, through IDSA or Arc Control?
- To know your system environment attach the report for the following tool Intel® System Support Utility for Windows (SSU), you can find the steps on the link How to get the Intel® System Support Utility Logs on Windows.

Hello Andres_Intel,
In answer to your questions:
- I will open a new thread re my firmware question - thank you for the suggestion.
- I was installing the driver manually. I have gotten into the habit of downloading the .exe driver file from the ARC driver website, uninstalling the current Intel ARC driver with DDU and then manually installing the updated driver.
- Please see the SSU report attached.
I trust that this is all OK and will wait to hear back in due course.
Kindest regards,
BigNish7

Hi Andres,
Thank you for your suggestion.
I removed BETA driver 31.0.101.4952 with DDU and installed WHQL driver 31.0.101.4953.
I am very happy to report it installed without any of the issues I had installing the BETA 4952 driver.
Thank you very much for your assistance and responding to my request.
Kindest regards,
BigNish7
