X-Plane 12 doesn't work with Intel ARC 750 after update (Linux)

Hi there:

After a year flying with X-Plane 12 with Intel Arc 750 GPU (Fedora 42 with the latest INTEL GPU drivers provided by Fedora, intel-gpu-firmware-20250708-1) from one month ago, X-Plane 12 crashed after sim updates. I tried to reinstall, and tried Beta aswell, but sim stucks when its creating the scenery/flight in the main menu. Always stucks in 'Finishing AI' progress bar (i think its the moment when the scenery must be on screen, as you can see in the attached image below).

I tried with my old NVIDIA 1660 Super and works fine, so maybe its an issue with Intel drivers. Its a kinda weird because it worked fine from one year ago.

Thank You

Hello OConnell,

I would like to know more about your system details to fully understand where the issue truly lies. Please provide the missing key information below:

1) Are there any changes made before the issue started?

2) What other troubleshooting steps have you already attempted?

Additionally, I highly appreciate you sharing your system configuration so I can fully check and provide you with an accurate fix. This could be possible by downloading the Intel® System Support Utility for the Linux* Operating System.

1) Download the Intel® System Support Utility for the Linux* operating system and save the ssu.tar.gz file to your system.

2) Extract the ssu.sh file from ssu.tar.gz and save to your system.

3) To run the ssu.sh script from a Linux* terminal, Open Applications->Accessories->Terminal.

4) From the current directory, navigate to the current folder where the ssu.sh file resides. For example, if you saved the ssu.sh file to a folder called SSU File, the command would be cd SSU File.

5) Run the ssu.sh file using this command: ./ssu.sh <parameter=0|1> where 0 = off and 1 = enabled.

6) Use the parameter definitions included in the readme to determine which parameter to use.

Note:

If no parameter is specified and only ./ssu.sh is run, it captures all system information with the exception of 3rd party logs that must be specified.

    • If no output file is specified, the Intel System Support Utility writes the output to the <systemname>.txt file.

7) You can view or open the output file in most text editors. However, view the file in a word processing software, such as WordPad*, for better formatted viewing. In addition, the Intel® System Support Utility for Windows can open the output file, which provides you with the capability of viewing the Linux information in an easy-to-view user interface.

I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

JeanetteC.

Hi,

1) I was using Xplane12 correctly and one month ago, XPlane detected a new update, so i updated Xplane 12.

After that, i proceed to run Xplane12 and stucked in the scenery loading (one of the images that i attached in my first post).

2) Few days after the issue, XPlane detected a new update, i proceed to install the new one without success. Fedora 42 updated the intel gpu drivers to the latest one, but that doesnt work as well.

I tried to reinstall Xplane 12, and Fedora 42 but that doesn't works.

I replaced my Intel ARC 750 GPU with an old Nvidia (only for testing purpouses) and XPlane 12 runs without problems with that old Nvidia.

Thank You Jeanette

Hello OConnell,

Please be informed that I am still investigating the issue you've raised. However, I want to set the expectation that the only supported Linux operating system is Ubuntu, as indicated on https://dgpu-docs.intel.com/driver/client/overview.html.

I will look into whether there are any steps available for Fedora; otherwise, you may need to reach out to Fedora Support for assistance with this issue.

I will provide an update as soon as possible.

Best regards,

JeanetteC.

I can confirm that the same issue related to the Intel ARC750 happens to a Windows11 installation. Xplane12 does not work anymore since the last update. It looks very much like a driver issue (again)

So sad to read that. Do you know if they'll try to fix it by modifying the drivers in a short period of time? Thanks.

Since the update of xplane 12.2.1, Intel graphics cards can no longer run xplane 12. I have sent many emails to Laminar Research, but Laminar Research has not responded to emails about Intel graphics card crashes. Therefore, I don't know which party should be responsible for fixing this issue. It seems to have become a tug of war between Intel and Laminar Research again!

Well Laminar Research put this on their website: Note: Intel GPUs are not supported by X-Plane 12. think there were many issues in the past already. This is why they do not answer to emails about intel raphics cards anymoe.

Yeahhh, im eye to eye with you. Really so sad because id spent some money with my Intel GPU not only because Xplane 12, cause Intel ARC GPUs works incredible with Red Hat/Linux, and visually its really incredible.

Yeahh, its only a flight sim on our computers, but some times like to flight with it because we have that kind of travelling sense, relaxing...beautiful, and now we have been waiting near two months ago without flying.

I have tested with other SOs aswell, and doesnt works. Only works with my old NVIDIA Super 1660 and....works really well. So....i think its time to replace my GPU until Intel GPU could be fully supported. Noticed this is not a complaint to our Intel Support Team!

That advice was public in their website when Xplane 12 comes out at the very first new released, 2022 if im not wrong. But some LR made official about one year and a half, that Intel were supported by XPlane 12. And thats the story, wed been playing with our Intel ARC GPU's to Xplane 12 (including their updates releases) from that time, without any issue and running very, very well...until the latest release, were Xplane 12 'crashed' out.

Let me share this official LR supported cards...Posted one year ago (aprox) and those ARE THE CURRENT SUPPORTED CARDS.

At the very first of XPlane 12 release (about four years ago aprox) and as minimal requirements:

Hello OConnell,

FYI SeverinCgakki,

After a thorough discussion with our team about the graphics issue with the latest release of X-Plane 12, please review our final recommendation:

  • Intel respects the game developer Laminar Labs' decision regarding the minimum requirements needed to play the game. For further information and support, please reach out to the game developer directly.

I will proceed to close this thread. If you need assistance in the future, please submit a new question, as this thread will no longer be monitored.

Sincerely,

JeanetteC.

So sad to read that, and a kinda weird, regarding the LR supported cards (including Intel ARC GPUs), but not in minimal requirements.

Kinda weird now we cant use this FS after mor than a year playing with it in our Intel Arc GPUs.

But we respect Intel work and support. Id tried to contact with LM support, opened one or two cases but with no response about this.

So its obvious that i will replace my Intel ARC with my old NVIDIA.

Thank You for your support.!
