terrible performance in the game Path of Exile 1

Hi everyone! After buying it, I ran into performance issues and constant crashes in my favorite game, Path of Exile.
On Vulkan, you can only play for a few seconds on maps—almost immediately there's an error and the game closes without any error message, it just shuts down.
On DX12, performance in the city immediately drops by 30-40 percent, crashes are less frequent, but it still constantly and randomly kicks me out, mostly during location loading. I don’t even want to talk about DX11, the performance there is at the level of my old GTS 450...

     My configuration is as follows:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
GPU: ASRock Arc B580 Challenger 12GB OC
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB Kit, DDR4-3600
SSD: fanxiang 512GB NVMe SSD, PCIe Gen3, 3200MB/s

Win 11 ver. 25H2

The latest version of the driver is installed (it is also worth noting that it is impossible to install the drivers without getting 'Error 1')

For a clear example, I will add two gameplay videos. I also want to note the unpleasant flickering of the monitor in busy scenes, as if the screen turns off for a millisecond.

1. https://youtu.be/x4PPYGSLREc?si=2SyyCWclnI1DAPaX  In the first video, a simple map is running, which, in theory, should give at least 100 FPS (I would be fine with 60).

2. https://youtu.be/LhcuEK7-2XY?si=cmGkvnuAJOpUyGxt   In the second video, a classic high-level map is running, not heavy and not light in terms of load. But here, there are already steady 5-10 FPS in groups of monsters.

I would also like to note the large number of performance complaints on the game's own forum; I can provide links upon request.

I would be very grateful for a response, thank you

Bumping this thread, the only way to have smooth gameplay in POE 1 is to use Vulcan, Vulcan is stable for about 10-20 min after a fresh install of Intel drivers, after that it crashes, it constantly crashes.  So focus on getting Vulcan API to work please, there are many many threads on this issue in POE support forums.  The crashes does not throw any error mgs but win event viewer has a bit of more info at least.

Im using a B570, 16GB Ram and 5700X3D CPU, smooth sailing in other games as long as im not at max sailing. Resolution is 3440*1440.

I need a confirm from Intel that they will look into this issue soonest, if not I need to return my B570 and find another GPU.

Event viewer error: (I did try using older driver as well so that is included): 3 events below, same error code for both driver versions.

I saw a new driver was available today, tried it, same issue as before using vulkan, did some more testing since one of the threads here recommended an older driver so did some uninstalling with DDU and installed that fancy old thing, well, same....

Below is events for driver 8250 and for 6647, Intel fix this asap or i need to install my old card or get an navidia one.

I recommend that you try the old driver 32.0.101.6647, vulkan still crashes as i reported but i do see a performance increase in DX 12 using this one, now the game does not look like Megaman on NES when running.  You will not get 100+ FPS that Vulkan provides but i do see that i dont drop below 40 when doing the breaches.

Hi afsdsome,

Thank you for the detailed report about the Path of Exile performance and stability issues with your Intel Arc B580 Challenger. I understand how challenging it must be dealing with constant crashes and severe performance drops, especially when you're unable to enjoy your favorite game properly.

The gameplay videos clearly demonstrate the performance issues you're experiencing, from the low FPS on simple maps to the 5-10 FPS drops during monster encounters.

To help investigate this comprehensively, please provide the following diagnostic information:

Event Viewer Logs:

This information will help us identify whether this is a driver compatibility issue, game-specific optimization problem, or hardware-related concern.

Hi RiL83,

Thank you for the additional Event Viewer logs showing igc64.dll crashes across multiple driver versions with your B570.

To ensure you receive focused support and avoid confusion in this thread, please create a separate support thread for your B570 issue. This will allow us to provide targeted assistance for your specific hardware configuration.

Best regards,

Good afternoon, I have an Intel Arc B580 Maxsun iCraft on hand and I have similar problems. I tried to install old drivers, the situation is changing just a little bit, I want to fix Vulkan, everything worked stably on it

I’d recommend closing all background apps before running the Intel System Support Utility. It helps make the report cleaner and gives a more accurate picture of what’s happening with your drivers. Running it with unnecessary programs open can sometimes hide conflicts or make the logs harder to interpret, so this little step can save time when troubleshooting.

Try driver 8247. Run DDU and clean installation.

I'm on the latest driver 8250, and I'm getting bad stuttering in games. Card is going from 50% - to 70% up and down, not stable .

It looks like the issues are mostly tied to the Arc drivers. I’d recommend completely uninstalling your current driver using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and then doing a clean install of an older version, like 6647 or 8247. A lot of users have reported that this helps reduce crashes and improves stability in DX12. It’s also worth making sure no other driver remnants are left behind, and sometimes running the installation offline can prevent unexpected errors. This approach won’t fix Vulkan crashes completely, but it usually makes the game playable for longer sessions.

I have tried 8247 and Vulkan is unplayable on that one as well. DDU used for all driver changes and removing remnants from Nvidia

Hi afsdsome,

Thank you for providing the diagnostic files! I appreciate you taking the time to gather the Event Viewer logs and Intel SSU report - this will be very helpful for analyzing the Path of Exile performance and stability issues you're experiencing.

Before I dive into the analysis of your files, I have one additional question:

Have you tried using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to perform a clean removal and reinstallation of your Intel Arc graphics drivers? See link for the steps: How to Use the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to Uninstall a...

DDU can help eliminate any potential driver conflicts or corrupted installations that might be contributing to the crashes and performance issues you're seeing in Path of Exile.

If you haven't tried DDU yet, I can provide guidance on the proper procedure. If you have already used DDU, please let me know so I can focus the analysis on other potential causes.

Hey
Yeah, I tried installing the drivers according to the instructions… but that's also where I ran into the problem that the official software program wouldn't install. The drivers, however, installed without any errors, so right now I’m without the utility but with successfully installed drivers
***Usually, when I tried to install the drivers in normal Windows mode, I got error "1" every time, but at least I had the software. In safe mode, I could install the driver itself without errors, but then the Intel application for game settings wouldn’t install

Hi afsdsome,

Thank you for trying the DDU procedure and providing that update. I understand the installation challenges you're experiencing - it's good that the drivers installed successfully in safe mode, even though you're missing the Intel Graphics Software utility.

Regarding your installation issues:

Since you have the drivers working but missing the utility, you can try downloading and installing just the Intel Graphics Software separately. Sometimes installing the utility after the drivers are already in place can resolve the installation conflicts.

The fact that your drivers installed successfully in safe mode without errors means you have the core functionality. The utility is helpful for game optimizations and settings, but not essential for basic operation.

This is often related to antivirus interference or Windows security features. Since safe mode worked, this confirms it's likely a software conflict rather than a hardware issue.

Now that you have working drivers, could you test Path of Exile again and let me know if the performance and stability issues persist? This will help me determine if the problems were driver-related or if we need to investigate other causes.

Best regards,

Hi, I probably should have mentioned right away that the drivers were installed in safe mode, and then the game was tested. To repeat— the game still freezes, has very low performance, and on Vulkan there are constant crashes to the desktop. On DX12 it crashes less often, but the performance is also worse, apparently by 40-60 percent. The problem is still relevant

I would try an older driver . Boot into safe mode and use DDU , then install older driver , use clean install from intel .

Thats all i can say really . i will try a vulkan game star citizen see if it crashes . i rolled back to 8247 drivers .
