question on SMB mode and hostname

we are trying to evaluate if intel AMT can be used in our lab environment for inventory, serial-over-ip, and power-over-ip requirements

the lab machines will not have any OS and the windows machine name is completely controlled by the tests that are run on that machine.

the SMB configuration documentation says below

Intel AMT Hostname: In SMB mode this is required. If you use DHCP, this must match computer name in the host OS. If static IP is selected, this name must be unique from the computer name in the host OS.

we do have DHCP. does this mean that the hostname specified here should be the windows machine name? what if they dont match? will i be not able to remotely control the machine?

Hi,

Yes. In DHCP mode, your AMT host name should be the same as the Windows system name. If they are different, it willcause the computer to have a different DNS name when it's awake and asleep. This can cause a lot of problems, especialy if you rely on the name to find the computer.

Thanks,

Sree

Hi,

In DHCP mode, you have to have the same IP address for AMT and host.

Thanks,
