Hi

1 I have previously tried to install OpenVino on an Asus I5 Generation 5 series Laptop with no success and NO install reported errors.

2 The prolbem manifests when mo.py cannot be found.

3 I have determined that the dir C:/Intel in never created ( though a dir Intel is created in the downloads dir).

4 When I try to manually try create C:/Intel before a repeat install that create fails with a report of that name being previously created.

Solution

1 Create a dir c:/Intel1

2 Modify the installation to point to C:/Intel1

Result At least the mo.py file is now available to properly complete the installation.

I do not understand why the Intel directory on c drive is reported as present, though cannot be seen. The Windows 10 installation is as supplied on purchase of the machine as new.

I would really appreciate any account of this (to me) apparent anomaly.

Could you try to inspect the installation log after running

.\w_openvino_toolkit_p_2018.5.445.exe  --l my_install_log.txt

Thank you for your guiding suggestion. To obtain the log I take it that :

1) I need to completely uninstall my current installation.

2) Re install using your command line issued from the command ( DOS Box like) interpreter.

Notes a) Do you think that renaming C:/Intel as C:/Intel1 likely to have any installation/operation issues?

b) I previously initiated the installation by double clicking on the given .exe, presumably also OK?

Hi John,

Yes please uninstall all previous versions of the SDK , delete the Intel folder(s) and start fresh.

Yes, run from command prompt (no admin needed).

Inspect the log after installation attempt.

Should be fine - anyway better to remove C:/Intel as C:/Intel1 just in case.

Yes that was fine, this is how we normally install but now we want to run again with --l my_install_log.txt to check the log for errors.

Hi Nikos

1) Unistalled my Intel1 installation

2) deleted c:/Intel . Note this was a hidden directory (why?)

3) deleted c:/Intel1

4) Created C:/Intel

5 ) launched the command line that you suggested.

Result a suite of files now contained in C:/Intel and my_install_log.txt is created

I have included the text file here as I do not think it was sucessfully attached,sorry.

Note Apart from absence of child window complaints I cannt see an obvious install failure - hopefully this will be born out as I continue

in proving the installation.

My wife knows I'm using her laptop for this!

Looks like a Windows installer service issue - please get all Windows updates, reboot and try again.

Is the system up to date with no pending installs and graphics drivers working properly?

1) I uninstalled the OpenVINO distribution.

2) I performed a Windows10 update. Result Asus I5 Laptop reports 'You're upto date. last checked Yesterday, 22:15'

Note. There is a long text record of automatic Windows 10 updates

3) I have not experienced any particular graphics problems - have use many apps regularly including BBC, You Tube,Matlab/Simulink,(Altera) Quartus, Atmel for ARM Cortex,Sketchup,RS Design tools.Kaspersky Virus Protection. Any suggestions to explicitly test appreciated.

4) I also have an ASUS I3 Laptop and performed a Windows10 update on it. Result I needed to resolve an issue with Windows 10 update hanging at 99%. I fixed that issue with help from the MicroSoft website.

5) Since the Asus I3 is also now uptodate do you think the OpenVINO would execute on this I3 machine?

6) I use a raspian stretch distro with your Movidius Nueral Compute Stick. Do you think OpenVINO will run OK on that 1.2GHz machine?

7) I also have UBUNTU 16.04 running on the Asus I3 under Oracle VM Virtualbox . Is there experience of runnng OpenVINO in that environment?

This or other antivirus can cause issues to installers and may be better to disable so that installation can proceed.

Recent Core i3 should work fine based on experience and specs

6th to 8th generation Intel® Core™ and Intel® Xeon® processors

Yes, should be fine on both CPU and GPU path. You could try the samples.

Yes, NCS sticks will be fine too.

Some devices will work some other will not depending how you pass through devices to the VM. CPU inference should work. I have seen reports that NCS will work too. May have to try.

I retried installation with the Kaspersky anti virus scanner disabled. The log file looks the same. I continued to try out the

installation and have successfully run both demo apps using both the default and MYRIAD options , the latter to try access to my NCS usb device.

Is it possible to prepare the NCS code on the ASUS(I3)/Windows10 and port to the Raspberry pi 3 HW for execution? I have previously used Ubuntu + NCS distro on the pi.

If I understand correctly you mean: run the model optimizer on Windows, generate IR, copy xml and bin files to pi and just run inference, correct? I believe it is possible but never tried the exact same workflow. Similar cross-platform workflows I tried had no issues. If I were you I would try with a sample just to make sure.
