SDRAM controller for DE0 nano board

Hello all!

I statrted my journey with FPGA recently. I have Terrasic DE0-nano board with Cyclone IV device. Board has 32MBytes of SDR SDRAM installed. I want to use that memory in my project using this board, however I can't find SDRAM controller IP core. I do not think I'm able to write my own SDRAM controller compatible with AVALON-MM interface at this point of my learning path. Can someone help me? I heave read that Intel dropped support for SDRAM but maybe there is chance that some legacy controller will work? I'll appreciate any help.

Can someone help? I downloaded 17.0 version of Quartus and installed it but I still can't find SDRAM controller there.

Hi there,

Hmmm, I have both Quartus 18.1 and Quartus 12.0 Standard versions installed on my PC and the IP is available there. What flavour of Quartus have you installed - lite or standard?

Maybe it is available only in standard editions - I do not know.

Anyway,  check out these examples: https://github.com/monkstein88/niosv-example-projects

(2. to 4.)

In there, I have used the same board, but with NIOS-V version, and did the things you seem to want to achieve.

So I think it has exactly what you are looking for - the SDRAM controller IP is included separately.

Also, you can check out and skim for more information on this website : https://shop.trenz-electronic.de/Download/?path=Trenz_Electronic/Modules_and_Module_Carriers/2.5x6.15/TEI0001/Reference_Design/22.1/test_board

Cheers,

M.M.
