11.1.046 install issues

I've put in a premier support issue, but just wanted to see if anyone else has come across this.

When I try and install 11.1.046 (the download for "I already have VS, ia32 only") on VS 2005 under XP, the installer starts some (at least two?) "hidden" (no visible VS window) instances of devenv while it goes about its business, one of which appears to hang around. At a later stage the installer then unjustly accuses me of running devenv and bails out in protest, leaving me behind with hurt feelings.

Any thoughts?

Ian,

I successfully installed the same version as you - I have VS 2005; XP SP3. Just checking the download - mine was w_cprof_p_11.1.046_ia32.exe

Thanks - that's the one. I've now had success on another machine (similar environment but with a less convoluted Intel Fortran installation history) so there is something astray with my primary machine. I am at a loss as to what.

From what I can tell it appears to be the VS integration package installation (number 4 out of 6) that spawns the zombie devenv that causes any subsequent package installations to fail. I am reluctant to wipe and reinstalll VS, so will make do with four sixths of 11.1.046 for now.

I believe only 2 versions of ifort can coexist properly. I generally remove an old one entirely (including the folders under program filesintelcompilerdownload) before installing a new one. Also, I try not to take the path where ifort appears in the Windows saved environment variables.

The devenv windows you see are part of the installation process. Try using the "repair" program linked in this article.

No luck with the repair tool. That said, the 11.1.46 VS integration already appeared to have been installed correctly and be working fine - its just that the setup.exe installer cannot start the install of anything else after it installs (or modifies, or repairs) the msi package for the integration.

By installing in phases and varying the installation order I've now got five sixths of 11.1.046 installed now. All I'm missing now is the parallel debugger extension thingamajig. Can the install for that specific msi somehow be started independent of the broader setup.exe install process? If not, then I suspect it is probably not a critical component for me anyway.

I'm not aware that there is a separate install for the parallel debugger extension.
