Could one of the experienced Fortran users tell me if the switch from VS2005 to VS2010 is painless in respect to Visual Fortran and Visual C/C++, or should I be careful? Or even stay with VS2005 as long it is supported? I currently use Windows 7 and Visual Fortran/C/C++ V12. Thanks for your advice.

Right now, I would agree that VS2010 doesn't buy you anything for Fortran development over VS2005/2008, though I think 2008 is a better choice for Win7 over 2005. If you're going to buy a new version, then 2010 is perfectly acceptable, and is likely to provide some advantages in the future.

If you do switch to VS2010 and have mixed-language applications, please read the Fortran release notes for important information on how you have to modify your non-Fortran projects.

I would like to second that and also ask "Why should I switch to VS20nn anyway, if everything is rosy with VS2005"?
