I haven't found a way to enable this in VS2012.

It's not just you. The history I am aware of (~ 2 - 3 years) has always been 1 - 2 steps forward, along with 2 - 3 steps back. Two biggies that I can remember: The resouce editor was taken away (in the Shell version that is packaged with IVF); the ability to print in color--i.e. so that keywords etc. would stand out just as they do on screen. The workaround for color printing was to print to a pdf file, and then print that! (Sorry but I like to spend my time debugging not with document formatting and creation.)

The resource editor is a licensing thing, not related to VS versions. Microsoft has chosen not to allow licensing of the resource editor as they consider it part of the Visual C++ product. We asked. The other items I would tend to agree with.
