Installing IVF10: lost everything

Dear forum members,

When I installed IVF10, I could no longer use the Visual Studio IDE (which depends on .NET2003). The install guide suggested that I should remove IVF9 and Visual Studio, which I did. But then, I still could not use Visual Studio; it had not reappeared. (I tried Premium Support, but for reasons unknown to me, my ID and password are no longer recognized.) Could anybody help me and tell me how to install IVF10 in such a way that I have Visual Studio as well?

Yours sincerely,

Niels H. Veldhuijzen

(P.S. Any idea how to get support for entering Premium Support?)

The removal advice is only to remove the integration of previous Fortran versions into Visual Studio, not to change anything in Visual Studio itself. You may need to repair the Visual Studio. You should be able to keep (a single version of) ifort 9, without VS integration, if you wish, for command line use.
At the Premier login screen, you should see an option for requesting account/password recovery.

Dear Tom18,

Thank you for your quick reply.

I don't know how to remove the integration of Fortran 9 into Visual Studio (except by installing IVF10 smiley [:-)] ).

I don't know how to install IVF10 such that I can use Visual Studio. This is my main problem. From the "start, programs, Intel" menu, I could only get to the command line version of IVF10. Where is Visual Studio??

For now, I reinstalled IVF9 with ".NET2003", so the old situation has bee restored. But of course I like to use IVF10, with Visual Studio. How can I do that?

To remove Visual Studio integration:
Start>Control Panel>add/remove programs>Intel Visual Fortran integrations{remove)

As you've no doubt seen noted many times, VS2003 is good with 32-bit ifort and past Windows versions, but VS2005 is required for Vista or 64-bit ifort.

Dear Tim,

Thank you again. I did remove "Integration of IVF9.1 in Visual Studio" and reinstalled IVF10. The installation procedure told me that IVF10 would be integrated into Visual Studio. But I still cannot use Visual Studio with IVF10! What is going on here? Or: what do I wrong consistently? The "Start -> Programs -> Intel" shortcut only offers me a command line. How do I invoke Visual Studio with IVF10?

Yours sincerely,

Neils

"The "Start -> Programs -> Intel" shortcut only offers me a command line. How do I invoke Visual Studio with IVF10?"

Did you try typing "devenv" (without the quotes) on the command line?

If Visual Studio is in your path it should then start with this command.

If you think it would be helpful to have a shortcut in the Intel program group that starts VS, please file a feature request with Intel Premier Support. Otherwise, as has been the case in all earlier versions, you go to the separate Microsoft entry to start VS.

I want to upgrade to V10.0 from V9. Where can I find upgrade info, "where to buy" only shows the full price, no upgrading price.

BTW, do I have to install VS 2005 in order to run V10.0 in 64 bit XP OS. In another word, will integrated VS work on 64 bit machine?

Thanks,

Emerson

Did you check this thread?

Yes, VS2005 is required for 64-bit XP OS. If you don't need full capabilities of VS2005, you have the option with ifort 10 of using the PPE instead.

Emerson,

If you have current support for your V9 compiler, you can simply log into the Intel Registration Center and download V10. By default, you won't get access to the integrated VS this way. If you have a need for that, submit a request through Intel Premier Support.

If your support has expired, you can purchase a Service and Support Renewal (SSR). This will extend your suypport term for 12 months from the date your earlier support expired and automatically upgrade you to the Professional Edition, giving you access to the integrated Visual Studio and Intel Math Kernel Library. If it has been more than six months or so since your support expired, it may be more cost-effective to buy a new license (you can buy a Standard Edition license) and this will get you the integrated VS.

I know this can sound confusing, so if you need more help, let us know..

Do you mean PPE won't work on 64bit XP machine? If that is the case, I am going to buy VS05 instead of upgrading to IVF10.0 professional. Please be advised. The major reason for me to run IVF on 64bit OS is to utilize the 4G memory capability rather than 2G.

Thanks

VSPPE works on x64. Tim's comment was that if you wanted to develop 64-bit apps in Visual Studio, you need VS2005 and not the 2003 or earlier versions.. VSPPE is VS 2005.

Dear all,

Wow, I didn't expect such a long list of replies and comments to my "cri de coeur"! I took my problem to Premier Support, and yes, there seems to be a quirk in the installation procedure somewhere. Premier Support is working on it. In the meantime, the cooperation of Premier Support and me resulted in a full-fledged installation of IVF10 which can be invoked from VS2003 (as IVF9 still can). So I am happy now.
