Installing Intel fortran compiler on Ubuntu 6.10

Dear friends,
I've seen this topic discussed before, but despite what it is advertised in the posts, I can't install the Intel Fortran Compiler on my Ubuntu 6.10 64bits box.
The problem I find is that entering the serial number doesn't work as it says it attempts to connect to the Intel Center and it fails to validate the number (this has been reported before several times), but providing the license directly doesn't work either. I use the option where you tell the installer where the license file with its complete path can be found, but once I press Enter it says the license file is invalid and refuses to proceed with the installation.
I know this license file is ok since I can use it in other linux boxes running fedora for instance, but I just want to install it in Ubuntu Edgy 6.10 if possible.
Thanks a lot,
Ferran.

Hi,

I enountered the same problem ob debian64, and found a solution which worked for me. The compiler version i downloaded was 9.1.036. So i placed the emailed license file into

/opt/intel/fce/9.1.036/licenses

and supplied

/opt/intel/fce/9.1.036/licenses/.lic

to the installer.
I was trying to install the .rpm files manually by converting them to .deb packages. Of course it didn't work, but afterwards i spotted the new path stated above. I think it also should work if you create the dir according to your compiler version by hand.
Hope it helps.

Hello,

I was also trying to install the intel fortran compiler version 9.1.041 on ubuntu 6.10 and as the ones who tried before I was not successful.

I also tried out the solution given above but it didn't work.

Has anyone found a way to get it done on ubuntu 6.10?

Thanks for your help

Tom
