Intel Parallel XE 2016 and MPI compiler wrappers

Hi,

Sorry if this isn't the place for this issue. I just noticed that when I install the 2016 parallel XE for linux there are no mpi compiler wrappers (mpicc, mpifort, etc). Is that right? Do you not distribute those anymore? What's the new way of doing that? Thanks.

PS. I have the 2015 version installed and it does include those, in case you were wondering.

That would *not* be correct if you have a Cluster Edition license and you installed the Parallel Studio XE 2016 Cluster Edition and did not alter the default to install the full Intel MPI.

If you obtained a specific Parallel Studio XE 2016 Composer Edition download file then you may be missing the full Intel MPI and those wrappers.

A Composer Edition download file is named like parallel_studio_xe_2016_composer_edition_for_fortran.tgz, whereas the Cluster Edition is named like parallel_studio_xe_2016.tgz.

I got this: parallel_studio_xe_2016.tgz

and installed using default settings. I get mpirun, mpdboot, etc. but the wrappers just aren't there.

I downloaded parallel_studio_xe_2015_update5.tgz and I get the wrappers just fine. Every time I just use the default settings.

Some more info:

When installing the 2015 version I get mpif90 in ~/intel/impi/5.0.3.049/intel64/bin/

When installing 2016 I get no mpif90/mpiifort/mpiicc/etc (but I do get mpdboot, mpirun, mpiexec...) in ~/intel/impi/5.1.1.109/intel64/bin/

That's interesting. It is not clear what is happening in your case then so we need to investigate the various associated log files.

Could you please bundle up any files in /tmp named like: intel.pset... intel.issa....intelremote... into a .tgz and attach that in a private reply to me using the Send Author A Message link.

I sent you the log files (I think... can't find a way to see my "sent" messages). Please let me know if you didn't get them and thanks for your help

I did see your message and see the logs attached. Thank you. We will let you know what we find. I sent a private reply back so hopefully the notification of that will let you get to the private message stream.

I sent the log files and details of the issue to our Installation Developers and will keep you posted on their findings.

The root cause of the missing components involves a license issue related to your underlying license type. A defect in the license generation failed to include a required component (IclsValL) necessary to trigger the installation of the full MPI package. This defect has been fixed.

I sent you a private reply with updated serial number information that you need to use during a re-installation. First, uninstall the current PSXE 2016 release and then perform the steps in the private reply to deal with the current license on your system, and then finally re-do the installation and provide the new serial number to download the new corrected license to your system.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Hi,

I am having the same problem. I just purchased parallel Studio 2016 cluster edition and I do not have any of the mpi wrappers.

How do I proceed?

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob, please send me a private reply (via Send Author A Message) with your current serial number. Do not post your S/N publically. The Cluster edition license should definitely include the license component to permit installation of the MPI wrappers. Once we know your S/N we will check out your license. Thank you.

Hi Cosmin - the root cause of the original issue was within our Intel Registration Center and the license generated for a Cluster Edition subscription, so the actual Parallel Studio XE release is not a factor.

In looking at your registered S/N, you experienced the issue (like a few others) due to having a Composer Edition subscription for which the full MPI component is not included. The full MPI component (and wrappers) are only available with the Cluster Edition subscription. So if you're interested/needing MPI for development then you would need the Cluster Edition subscription.

Did you purchase through our web site or another reseller?

Dear Kevin,

Thank you for your email ... the licence that we have is

Intel® Parallel Studio XE Composer Edition for Fortran Linux*

We do not buy this licence directly, it was through SGI from which we have buy also some computing nodes.

In this case I should discuss with SGI ?

Best wishes,

Cosmin

Yes, please start with SGI and let them know you need the Cluster Edition for your MPI development needs. If they provide a new S/N for Cluster Edition, just re-start the installation again (no need to uninstall) and use the new S/N when activating and it should enable installing other products from the Cluster Edition including the full MPI product.

Hi Andrés.

The issue cited in the original post was resolved back on 11/4/2015. It did not involve any particular Parallel Studio XE release but rather a configuration issue within our Intel Registration and Download Center affecting license files issued prior to that date for the PSXE Cluster Edition product.

Everyone who has posted to this thread after that date has been found to not have the appropriate Cluster Edition license due to having not purchased that edition but a lesser edition (i.e. Professional or Composer) that does not include the necessary full MPI product.

If you have just recently obtained your product license and are missing the MPI compiler wrappers after installing Parallel Studio XE, then please check that you obtained a subscription for the Cluster Edition product. There is insufficient information associated with your IDZ account for me to obtain any details about your product license to help you with that.
