The main culprit of multiple Forum postings (just happened to me in thread "C and CVF Compatibility") seems to be usage of Tab key. Instead ofinserting a tab character/multiple spaces(as one would expect in a Win32 multi-line edit control), it switches the focus to the next button (Submit Message) and the following Space key (a common action while typing) posts the message. The protection seems to be inadequate -- it rejected multiple posting for the first time, buttheyreappeared on subsequent visiting.

Further, the Font name/Font size controls are quirky. They don't display the formatting of the text under the cursor, but rather a "current value". However, retrieving to "default" formatting ("Font name"/"Font Size") does not work. For example, type:

Then, select & change the first to Courier New, x-small. Now, there's no way to repeat the same formatting to the second unless one changes font/size to something else and then back into the desired. I know it's a bit complicated to solve in HTML environment, but current behaviour is highly counterintuitive.

The tab issue is not really a forum thing, I think. The browser intercepts that and moves to the "next input item". I see this behavior everywhere.

I kinda recall that tabs used to work correctly e.g. in old Compaq Forum... I'm 90% sure... this is easily solvable under pure Win32 by intercepting WM_GETDLGCODE, but under browser it's Greek to me.

You're right that it works the same way in other places, though.

Is default sorting of messages within a thread changed just for me or for everyone (from "date ascending" to "date descending")? I find it irritating, and I don't see appropriate setting in personal preferences. I know I can click on "Topic sorting option" but it's annoying when I have to click there every time.

The declared preference for bottom posting in news groups seems to have been usurped in a change here. Modern ideas or something but I find it much harder to follow threads and chase details. I must agree with Jugoslav

With the present behaviour of the default, it seems a good option is "split screen format" which behaves reasonably, and the "previous message", "next message" buttons at least seem to respondfairly quickly.

I agree that the new message format is harder to follow, less natural. Please get it changed back to what it was or give us a way to permanently choose the former format.

This caught me by surprise too - I will ask that it be changed back. You can set the order for yourself in the forum profile.

Except it does not seem to stick, at least not that I can make stick. My preference remains the standard "bottom post" approach, please.

It does stick if you are logged in - at least it does for me.

Eventually it stuck, no idea why, must have to hold your mouth right. On about the 8th attempt it stuck (and yes I was logged in or I could not have got to my preferences)

Another thing I find mildly annoying - when I open my shortcut to the Intel Fortran Compiler for Windows & Visual Fortranforum and then click 'Login' I get returned to the forum selection screen.

Can this be changed so I don't have to switch back to the forum again?

Or could we even have an automatic login? I know that means cookies, but I'm OK with that...

In case it will save someone the time I spent this morning:

My attempts to log in were ignored, because both SuSE and Microsoft had set my time ahead. The forum doesn't explain that my time setting is out of tolerance.

I haven't seen any effect of time zone changes on logging in.

I too find the way that the login takes you to the list of forums annoying, and have complained about it before. I'll bring it up again. I have also asked for a persistent logon using cookies, but there is reluctance to implement that.
