Hello,

I installed Intel Parallel Studio XE 2013 SP1 initial release, by downloading older version from the additional downloading section as suggested by you. However, I cannot see the command prompt to copy the target and link it to Abaqus software. Please refer to following link. this is what I want to do. I am able to see it with 2015 latest version but not the one mentioned. Please suggest! I am spending time over it but I am not able to solve the issue!

Thanks,
Aditya

With a properly installed Intel Parallel Studio XE 2013 SP1, you should see an entry in the Windows Start Menu for "All Programs : Intel Parallel Studio XE 2013". One of the sub entries under that item will be something along the lines of "Command Prompt with Intel Compiler XE v13..."  Depending on what components you installed, you should see one or two command window shortcuts. Choose the one that matches the Abaqus that you have (32- or 64-bit).

As to " I cannot see the command prompt", you did not tell us where you expect to see it and what you did to locate it.

I've been looking recently at complaints from Abaqus users about use of newer Intel Fortran versions, and the problems they have are all caused by Abaqus instructions and setup scripts that are inappropriately specific to one Fortran and VS version. The recommended way is to use the "Command Prompt" shortcut we install in the Start menu under Intel Parallel Studio XE 2013 SP1 - and once that is open, and you "cd" to a writable folder, you invoke Abaqus scripts from there. The paths to the compiler and libraries will already be set up.

The normal start menu advice is good for Windows 7.  If OP were using a newer Windows, different advice might be needed.

Yes. I forgot to mention that, since I do not use a touch-screen (my screen is located comfortably far enough to read, but is beyond reach), one of the first things that I do after any W8.1 installation is to install Classic-Start-Menu because W8.1 is (for me) unusable without the start-menu.

If you type "command" into the search bar, you'll see under folders "Command Prompt with Intel Compiler XE 15.0". Open that, and there are the shortcuts for the command environment. I usually copy these to my desktop and change the "Start in" property as desired.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! Where can I get a list of all versions of Fortran Compilers? That way I can download and install properly the suitable version for Abaqus!

Thanks,

Aditya

See here for instructions on getting older versions. I strongly recommend not starting out with an old version as you may encounter issues. Abaqus should work fine with the latest version, if the setup is done properly.

Thanks Steve! I know the procedure to get older versions. What I want is a list of all versions. I was able to find that through a link in the 5th point of the above procedure, however now the link does not work?

Thanks,

Aditya

https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-fortran-compiler-for-windows-required-and-optional-microsoft-development-software has a list of all of the versions of Intel Visual Fortran. The first part discusses the current version and a list at the end names all the prior versions back to 8.0 (before that, Intel Fortran was a very different product.)

Thanks Steve! Actually the list that I was talking about was found through a link seen in 5th point of this link- https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/older-version-product

I was able to open the the link in 5th point (https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-compiler-and-composer-update-version-numbers-to-compiler-version-number-mapping) and get the list few days back, however, know I am not able to do so now. It says page not found.

Thanks,
Aditya
