Earlier it was stated that there would be a version of the Intel FORTRAN environment that will combine the Intel and Compaq technologies. It was indicated that it would be available this year. Is there any updated or projection on when this will be available??
Does the move to Visual Studio 2003 change any thing???
Thanks,
Scott Parks

We're finishing up an update of the statement right now. The release was earlier said to be in the second half of 2003 - that's still the case, but look for it in the fourth quarter.
VS.NET 2002 and 2003 will be supported.
The updated statement will be posted here when all the lawyers get done fussing with it....

What will be the difference to the combined compiler of 2003 over 2002? I guess I don't understand why anyone would want both 2003 and 2002 on the same machine but perhaps there's some benefit.

Steve,
Thanks for the update. I am the point of contact for our company and I get a question every week or so on when to expect it.
In answer to why have both version of 2002 and 2003 installed on the same machine. The projects are upgraded when you open them in 2003 and they are not backward compatible. 20002 and 2003 can be installed side by side and they can live very happily on the same machine.

Thanks, but the question relates to vsn 2002/2003 vis a vis 'combined technologies'. Having both, I couldn't care less about backwards compatibility and neither should anyone else. IMO, 2002 belongs to the not-even-wrong heap.

Intel Visual Fortran (as Intel Fortran 7.1 does today) will support either VS.NET 2002 or VS.NET 2003 (or both if you have both installed). Because VS.NET 2003 is a paid upgrade, a lot of people may not want to do so. The "solution" files are not interchangeable, though.

Thanks for the clarification. BTW, the updrade from vsn '02 to '03 is available for $30+s&h, a not too well publicized MS offer. I take it then that in its second coming, IVF won't exploit the new doodahs that vsn '03 sports, eg, windows forms for VC++.

Initially, it will be a straightforward Fortran development environment. If we find there are additional features we can take advantage of, we'll look at it, but the new architecture of Visual Studio erects firewalls between different languages so it may not be possible.

I hope that by the time it is released in the fourth quarter of 2003 (or later?) it will at least support context-sensitive help and dynamic help, and preferably also will support IntelliSense.

No Intellisense - MS keeps that to themselves.
