Using forum, email subscribe to topic and all new messages, feed

I don't know why, but it seems when I unsubscribed to the all messages email notifications and later subscribing, I don't get all messages anymore, nor ones I posted on. I do see when I login in notification feed. Is this the new normal or is something off about my account? Considering that at times the email for every post could be a bit much, I can see how the present behavior is a feature once I get used to logging in and checking feed.

Perhaps this now controlled at "My Settings->Subscriptions and Notifications->Email Subscription Options"? I checked boxes in Chrome but did not see an explicit "save", and came back to check if previously checked boxes were saved, and they were not.
