First w_fc_p_8.1.019 on Monday, w_fce_p_8.1.012 on Tuesday & now (Wednesday),w_fc_p_8.1.021.
I take it that w_fc_p_8.1.021 supersedes w_fc_p_8.1.019, and that I only need to install w_fce_p_8.1.012 if I develop for 64bit systems?
I downloaded w_fc_p_8.1.019 yesterday, but fortunately (given some of the comments in this forum?), never got around to installing it.
I take it that:
- there is no longer any point in installing w_fc_p_8.1.019
- Ishould now DL w_fc_p_8.1.021
- I can install w_fc_p_8.1.021 without first installing w_fc_p_8.1.019
- that this is a full compiler install
- and hence I need to first un-install my existing 8.0 (rel 050) installation?
It would help if there were a set of install instructions specifically for upgrades from 8.0 to 8.1, & clarification of the relationship between 019 & 021. In particular, I take it that:
- I do NOT have to uninstall my existing VC++.NETinstallation
- ie.just uninstall IVF first?
I have not read every last word, but it seems that the RN has no mention of therelease number(at least 021 RN doesn't). ie. it is not obvious whether this is a replacement, or a patch for 019. I have (now) assumed the former, or do I have that wrong?
Also I can find nothing describing what has changed between the two releases. eg. if I had installed 019, would it be worth bothering with 021 (given that there may be yet more changes to follow)?
In the meantime I will start the 021 DL, but would appreciate some clarification before installing it.
Hopefully some of the problems apparently encountered with the 019 install have be fixed in 021? Or am I stilllikely to encounter integration problems with VS?????

Having started the 021 download, I notice that it is 315MB - more than double the size of 019.
Why so much larger ?

You need to read the descriptions in Premier Support more closely.
What you are downloading is w_fcp_p_8.0.021. This is the Professional Edition of IVF and does not apply to you if you have a Standard Edition license.
The w_fce file is the compiler for Intel EM64T. You are free to download and install that if you like, but it does not supersede w_fc_p_8.0.019.
I realize the naming convention can seem cryptic, but the descriptions should be reasonably clear. Here's the decoder ring for the package names.
w_ - Windows. (vs. l_ for Linux)
fc_ - Fortran Compiler (classic, for IA-32 and Itanium)
fcp_ - Fortran Compiler Professional
fce_ - Fortran Compiler for Intel EM64T
p_ - Product release
pc_ - Product (continuous) update (maintenance update)
If it is a patch, there will be a string starting with pe after the initial version.

Oh, the 019 vs 021 part - this is probably the most confusing. These are package numbers that are incremented each time a package is built. The same release may have two different numbers, depending on how it was built (download vs, CD-ROM, for instance.)
