I am using Visual Studio 2010. Every time I type in a parentheses the program slows down for literally 20 seconds and then goes back to normal again. I've already fiddled around with the Tools>Options>Text Editor>Fortran>Advanced options but could not pinpoint which option is triggering this behavior.
Well, there is no way I am going to avoid typing in parentheses when coding and this behavior is extremely frustrating and messing with my workflow. How do I deactivate this? I don't want any fancy code-checking options. I just want to code without the whole damn thing freezing every so often.

Have this problem on large files both .f and .f90 on VS2013 and all versions of Intel Parallel Studio starting from 2013-2014 when Browsing/Navigation Database is enabled.
My intuition is that the problem is due to some inefficient parsing algorithm in IPS integration in VS.
On the bright side, Visual Studio now crashes when Browsing/Navigation Database is enabled. So I had to disable it and typing parentheses has become a breathe for me.

I would suggest that you move to VS 2017 and the Intel 2017 or the 2018 Beta. Al work well.
I type a lot with legacy code and this has not been a problem.

I am using Visual Studio Professional 2017 with
Intel(R) Visual Fortran Intel(R) 64 Compiler for applications running on Intel(R) 64, version 17.0.6 Package ID: w_comp_lib_2017.6.270.
I have set all the options in Text Editor > Fortran > Advanced to false (or whatever sounds less demanding).
I got a message today which says "We've noticed that extension 'Fortran IDE' is slowing typing performance". And, indeed, typing lag is noticeable. Has anyone had to deal with a similar problem?
