So my desktop box that is super fast and that is usually used for playing music has not been reformatted in years and I was getting an error that was problematic.
So I pulled the hard drives out and put in a new HD and installed the Windows 10 preview.
It should be called Windows 7.2. - You can turn off all the minor annoying metro stuff and aside from a few cosmetic differences - no greater than XP to Windows 7 it is a Windows 7 box. They have gone from a shiny winodws look to a pastel look - Martha in shades after a long night on the booze. Very muted.
Only one program has given me an install hassle, SPECCY, but the setup time for the Windows 10 software is about 30 minutes, it was a real treat.
You shall not fear the new it is a winner.
Intel Fortran runs.

Thanks for the report John. can't wait to replace Windows 8.1 on my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro. The only hesitation I have is it only has a single internal SSD. This places you in a "burn your bridges" situation. Probably the way to go would be to replace the SSD with a cloned version, then upgrade.

I just threw in an old drive I had lying around into a computer I use for music, interestingly it is still better than 95% of the computers in our place, but I hate swapping in and out of the Dell Portable so I bought a docking station and once I got a 1TB for the dell the world is my Oyster,.
Get a 1 TB SSD - they are great and partition
No one is going to be bitching about the new Windows - man I am traditional to the core.- it installs in no time at all. Bloody wonderful.

I just upgraded to Windows 10 and my Fortran compiler runs, but only sometimes. Is there a problem with the old Visual Studio shell? (I do not have Visual Studio 2013 - full version) installed.

Not that I know of - I have the VS Shell installed on one of my Win10 systems and have not had a problem. What are the symptoms?
