that is the error message I get when I try to open mixed language code (intel c++, and fortran update 7)

Update six works fine.

What am I doing wrong?

Did you update both the Intel C and Fortran Compiler to version 7? The compilers go hand and hand with each other. The other thing to check is that you are using the correct compiler and IDE integration for update 7. You can check which compile you are using for Fortran as follows (C++ should be similar):

Tools => Options => Intel Fortran => Compilers => Selected Compiler

and Check the IDE integration in help About in Microsoft Visual Studio.

I don't know it the system accepted my last message so I will again enter it.

Currently using Intel Visual Fortran Compiler XE on IA-32, version 12.1.0 Package ID: w_fcompxe_2011.6.233

and

Intel C++ Compiler on IA-32, version 12.1.1 Package ID: composer_2011_update7.062 as part of Parallel Studio

on Windows XP and Visual Studio 2008. This set up works.

When I try to install Fortran update 7 I get the above mentioned message.

I tried using the Fortran integration tool. No change.

It looks like you are using Update 6 for Fortran and Update 7 for C++. Can you install w_fcompxe_2011.7.258.exe available at registrationcenter.intel.com? Please let me know if there are error messages during the install.

I fell into a trap myself when attempting to upgrade ifort and icl to update 7, when I already had updates 5 and 6 installed and running. Only the last installed of ifort and icl from update 7 was available, while the earlier versions remained available. I had to remove updates 6 and 7 entirely (so that only 1 installation of ifort and icl remained) and repeat the full installation of icl and ifort for update 7.

I try to keep one fortran and one c++ on the machine at a time. When the fortran compiler asks if I want to remove the old version I say yes.

I thought that the c++ compiler removes the old version. The Parallel studio is a clean install of Parallel Studio SP1 with the recent update of the composser (7).

That worked fine with fortran update 6. The issue pops up on the installiation of fortran update 7.

I needed to restore from back-up to again get everything working.

Should I do an un-install of the composer before installing c++ update7 and an uninstall of fortran before installing update 7 ?

When installing Fortran Update 7 I got the message

Intel Parallel Debugger Extension is already installed

I found a solution.

Step 1) Take Parallel Studio 2011 and Fortran XE both back to update 6.

Step 2) Install Fortran XE update 7.

Step 3) Install Parallel Studio 2011 updat 7.

I don't know why it should make a difference if Paralle Studio 2011 update 7 is installed first, but it does.
