Connect to an already running application

Hi,

I have a question about connecting to an already running application. I saw this thread:

https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-Graphics-Performance/How-to-use-GPA-to-attach-an-already-running-process/td-p/1618295

and saw the documentation about the auto-detect feature. However, both of these seem to only apply to an application that is started after activating auto detect, not when the application is already running. As a simple test, I used the gpasample.exe that is provided by the package. When I add the line "gpasample" to the InjectionList.txt file and I activate auto-detect, I am able to hook to the application when I start it from the file menu.

However, when I first start the gpasample.exe and then activate auto-detect, nothing happens. So my question is, is it possible to first start gpasample.exe and then activate the graphics monitoring? Or must the application be started after the GPA monitor is active?

Hi west_f,

Thank you for your post.

As you discovered, Auto-detect does only work on applications that are started after activating auto detect.

If an application is started before activating auto detect, it will not be injected into and Graphics Monitor will not be able to capture frames or streams.

I apologize if the wording on that post was confusing, I have since fixed it.

Thanks, and let us know if you have any further questions in using Intel GPA for your frame analysis needs!
